At last a media article that gives Garmin, and the Fenix 5 (Plus), just dues. I was getting so fed up of seeing articles/post that gave Garmin short shrift or no mention at all. It was always Fitbit, Apple and Samsung. And in reality none of these can hold a candle to the venerable Garmin Fenix 5 (Plus) — and yes, I do own, and wear, ’24×7′, a Garmin Fenix 5 Plus. Even the new Polar Vantage V falls short in most instances.
This article in Forbes is pretty much on the mark. The Fitbit ‘Versa’ is a joke next to a Garmin.
But, check out the article. I thought it was fair.
Happy New Year — with YOUR Garmin.
It aggravates me such when Garmin, unfairly, gets such short shrift. Much of it has to do with Garmin’s appalling marketing. Fitbit just runs circles around them. They are so inept. These articles are crazy. It is always Fitbit, Fitbit, Samsung, Fitbit. What about Garmin.
Garmin has at least three watches better than the Fitbit Versa. But, Oh, NO! Never Garmin.
As you can see I do NOT agree with any of their Garmin picks. Prove me wrong. I own, have owned or bought for family members: Garmin Fenix 5 Plus, Fenix 5, Vivoactive 3 & Vivosport. So, it isn’t like I am just going by specs on the Web. I also owned a Fitbit Ionic. I do NOT think the Fitbit Versa is a good tracker. I would NOT swap my Fenix 5 Plus for a Versa plus $500.
Anywho, you see what you think. I have had my say.
‘AndroidCentral’ Publishes Its List Of ‘Best Hybrid Smartwatches In 2018’ — Includes ‘Garmin Vivomove HR’.
Interesting list. I have indeed looked at a few of them, though my emphasis is on the fitness/health features as opposed to the smartwatch capabilities per se.
That said I have been tempted a few times by the ‘Withings’ but have managed to resist. Heard good things about the new LG and also saw that it has been deeply discounted of late.
I don’t agree that, bar for its smart looks and $200 price tag, the Garmin Vivomove HR is the right comparison. I would have gone with the Garmin Vivoactive 3.
But, check out the list. Worth keeping abreast of the technology and products.
The ‘Best’ Smart Watches Per ‘Business Insider’ — Though Not Necessarily The Best Activity/Fitness Trackers.
Google, which knows more about I than I actually do, brought this article to my attention.
It was interesting. I am not into smart watches. My kick is high-end activity/fitness trackers — like the Garmin Fenix 5. I actually DUMB DOWN my watches. I do NOT want them acting as smart watches. I am old. I don’t want to be notified on e-mail. I will check for e-mail in my own time.
Some of these names were new to me. They all came some fitness/activity tracking capability. Would be fun to see what they are.
But, I wanted to share this with you.

This really is BUT pure cosmetics. Thus, the ‘lipstick on a pig’ is beyond appropo!
Yes, there is an Adidas-specific workout APP for running, plus a new watch strap and a new watch face. That is IT!
The rest of the watch is the SAME. The SAME.
Yes, I understand and now I have got to appreciate. Fitbit is all about looks, little substance. It is for posers. So, this works out well for that crowd. You can show off your Adidas version. Wow.
I have another 19-days with my dreaded Fitbit Ionic. That will be 90-days — the limit I imposed on myself, as a kind of penance, I have found a good home for it. My 12-year daughter who started wearing an iWOWNFit i6HRC Fitness Tracker, I got her for her birthday last month, wants it. That is perfect. It will be great for her. She is not a runner. She will make use of the music feature that I have not touched. It will count her steps, monitor her sleep and measure her heart-rate. It will get her used to wearing a big tracker. That is great. My 17-year old daughter got my Garmin Vivoactive HR. So, this all works out.
Stay tuned. I will keep you posted.

There might have been a time that I might just have considered wearing one of these — but not anymore. Appears that I am destined for ever onwards to only wear high-end activity/sleep tracking smart watches with GPS/Glonass, Heart Rate Monitors and gyroscopes. But, I don’t mind looking. As I have mentioned before Bulova sends me e-mails and I check out what they have to offer.
The ‘red’ version does have certain je ne sais quoi. Does look kind of cool. They all, however, look heavy
