Garmin’s New ‘Enduro’ With Extended Battery Life Is Not For I; NO Maps & There is NO Solar Charging In My Winters!

by Anura Guruge

Thanks to the support of my friends at ‘heartratemonitorsUSA‘ I have, over the last 3-years, been lucky enough to get & wear the latest & greatest of Garmin watches — including even a MARQ. So, if I wanted I could have asked for an ‘Enduro‘ BUT I didn’t.

It is NOT for I.

First & foremost I do NOT need that extended battery life. Yes, it would be NICE, but charging my ‘Fenix 6 Pro Solar‘ is not a hassle. Though I use at least 2-hours of GPS every day, I only need to charge it every 3-days or so. I could actually go longer, but it is like topping up the gas tank in your car. When I get down to about ‘3-days left’ I like to charge it, just in case.

Plus, the ‘Enduro’ does NOT have maps. I do not in reality use my Garmin maps that often, BUT I like having them.

Plus, there is the whole SOLAR CHARGING thing. I actually got the ‘Fenix 6 Pro Solar (Titanium)‘, that I wear most of the time (rather than my ‘Fenix 6 Titanium‘) because Solar Charging intrigued I & I wanted to see how much solar I can get, in New Hampshire, in the Winter. I now KNOW the answer. I am not totally stupid & suspected what it would be like — & I was right. Like today. ZERO. NADA. Nothing — even though I was outside for nearly 3-hours.

So, no ‘Enduro’.

I suspect we will see a ‘Fenix 7’ or equivalent this year. Yes, I will get that.

Fitbit ‘Sense’ Is Uncannily Accurate When It Comes To Steps, Heart Rate, Floors & GPS.

by Anura Guruge

After 10K steps.

On Sunday morning I walked 11,001-steps with a Fitbit SENSE & a $900 Garmin Fenix 6 Pro Solar strapped side-by-side on my my left wrist.

The SENSE recorded 11,001 steps, the Fenix 6 10,955 (once corrected for 330+ steps already recorded), i.e., 46-step difference over 11K.

The Fenix 6 tends to be fairly accurate. So, if the SENSE is that close — we are GOOD. I am impressed. You probably can’t get better than that.

HR was pretty much the same. Again, I was impressed. Ditto floors climbed & we are talking 600 feet of elevation change. Fitbit & Garmin registered the same. WOW. GPS was also very close. I have tested dozens of smartwatches over the last 3-years. This was as accurate as I have seen it. In terms of accuracy we are GOOD. Attractive too. Nice bright display. For the price, we have a winner.

Fitbit ‘Sense’ (From ‘HeartRate Monitors USA’), Attractive, ECG, GPS & Stress Management.

Side-by-Side with Fitbit ‘Versa 2‘.

Thanks to ‘HRM USA‘ we got a Fitbit ‘Inspire’ today — so we can check it out. When it comes to Fitbit’s my wife is the expert, whereas my speciality & druthers is Garmin.

She has been wearing a Fitbit ‘Versa 2‘ for over a year & loves it. It was kind of hard to get her to part with it so as to try the Inspire.

At first sight, as you can see from the two pictures above, they look very similar. But, I think the Inspire is fractionally smaller & appears to have a fancier, slightly domed screen.

The Inspire, like the Versa 2, has an awesome, eye-pleasing display.

The ECG functionality is built-in, straight out of the box & easy enough to use. You can see the results above.

Very impressed so far. I will keep you posted. I will take it walking with me later this week to check out the step count & GPS.

New ‘Garmin Fenix 6 Solar’ Side-by-Side With ‘Fenix 6 Pro’, Both Titanium (One Black, Other Silver).

The Black Titanium Solar
on its own.

Very similar. The BLACK is the SOLAR.

IF you look at image #1 (right at top) you will see a THIN ‘band’ between the glass face and the bezel. That is ONE of the solar collectors. That is SUPPOSED to be a 100% collector — i.e., collects all sunlight that falls on it.

FUNNY thing. In these picture the Silver Pro looks like it is BIGGER. It is not. It is fractionally smaller. In terms of watch diameters they are BOTH the same. The Solar is 0.4mm thicker. I noticed that right away. Display size is ALSO the SAME.

The titanium case WEIGHT is THE SAME, also.

I am ‘returning’ the Titanium band to my friends at ‘HeartRateMonitors USA‘. I hate metal bands on Garmin. Kind of feels stupid (& I wore a Rolex for 26-years).

So, that is the story so far. I will keep you posted.

The ‘Garmin Fenix 6 Solar’ Carbon Grey Titanium Comes In A Fancy BIG Box.

Vast improvement on the
Blue/White‘ model that I hated
& returned within the day!

The ‘blue/white’ came in the STANDARD,
fairly small & compact
Garmin Box.

NOT as fancy, by far, as the HUGE
plastic box Garmin uses with
the MARQ.

Amusing & cute. Yes, Garmin is, of course, trying to JUSTIFY the $1,099.99 price. Hhmmm. $229 of that is the strap. Heavy unfunctional strap! I am sending the strap back to ‘heartratemonitorsUSA‘. Yes, I evaluate watches for them. SMILE.

Nice enough watch. Far, far superior looking to the butt ugly ‘blue/white’ one. I cannot believe I initially picked it.

TRUTH be told, I WISH Garmin had made the SILVER Titanium as with the MARQ or my other Fenix 6. The Silver Titanium looks REAL good. My favorite. But, I can live with this one. SMILE.

I Am RETURNING My ‘Garmin Fenix 6 Solar’, After Less Than A Day — UGLIEST, UGLIEST Watch I Ever Saw!

by Anura Guruge

With my OTHER Titanium Fenix 6 (Left)
— which looks pretty classy.

The SOLAR is on the RIGHT.

Garmin Marketing of the Fenix 6 Solar.

In the box, USPS label printed … ready to ship Monday.

On I did NOT get it on a whim. I gave it a LOT of thought. My criteria were simple & defensible:

  1. I wanted Titanium. I decided last year I am going to standardize on Titanium.
    —-
  2. The Solar Titanium is ONLY available in two options: this white one & a black one with a METAL STRAP.
    —-
  3. I hate metal straps. I didn’t want to get a watch, priced $150 more, with a $230 band that I did NOT want (though that is what is now going to happen).
    —-
  4. Garmin featured the white model — as you can see above — so I assumed it would be decent, in person (& it wasn’t).
    —-

As soon as I opened the box I knew I was in trouble! It looked TACKY & terrible. Butt ugly.

I hoped it would grow on I.

It did NOT.

If anything it got worse. It physically repulsed me! It made me ‘sick’ to just look at it. NOT WORTH IT.

It had to go.

Not sure what Garmin is thinking.

This white watch looks like a $5 BLING watch!

It is really tacky.

Yes, my plan is to get the BLACK Titanium. I will keep you posted.

The SOLAR is on the RIGHT.

The solar, on the RIGHT on three of these, is a bit chunkier — which I guess was to be expected. Not so much wider, as noticeably taller.

I do NOT like it! The white is STUPID. Ugliest watch I have ever encountered. I am embarrassed to wear it. I kid you not.

I got it because it was TITANIUM & it was the model Garmin was featuring in its writeups. But, it is BUTT UGLY. Yikes. That was a mistake. Why don’t I return it. Because it was basically given to I — & I don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. BUT, if YOU WANT a real, real, real good deal on a hardly used Fenix 6 Solar let me know. SMILE.

So, that is my take. SMILE.

I Am, Of Course, Getting A ‘Garmin Fenix 6 Solar’ — Thanks, Of Course, To ‘Heartrate Monitors USA’.

Thanks to ‘HRM USA‘ I have been able to enjoy every single Garmin Fenix model since the ‘5’. Yes: Fenix 5, Fenix 5 Plus, Fenix 6, Fenix 6 Pro & now the Solar. SMILE. I am lucky, & I know it. They even got me a Garmin MARQ Explorer — though, to the amazement of both sides, I asked them to exchange it for a Fenix 6 Pro!

I have asked for this new Titanium model. That was the one lasting impression from the MARQ. I am hooked on titanium. It looks different. Not sure about the blue, but it sure will be different too.

Of course I will keep you posted.
