Fitbit’s New ‘Sense’ (Shipping In October) Gets FDA Approved ECG/EKG Heart Monitoring Support.

Yes, Apple ‘Watch Series 4’ pioneered ECG/EKG way back in 2018. This is, however, Fitbit’s first foray into this field. That it has got US FDA approval is BIG. Samsung is still struggling to get this approved on their new ‘Watch 3’. That must be galling for them.

The Fitbit ‘Sense’, at $329, is quite the watch. It has built-in GPS & all the latest health tracking features. Most impressive Fitbit ever — & it even has an AMOLED, always-on display with a 6-day battery life. This is quite the watch & it is $100 cheaper than the Samsung ‘Watch 3’. Hopefully I will get one, in October, from ‘Heart Rate Monitors USA‘ (HRM USA) to evaluate. I will keep you posted. OK?

Dr. Guannan Ge, Dartmouth-Hitchcock (Lebanon), The BEST Pain Doctor In New Hampshire?

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE & read here. You can find her at: dartmouth-hitchcock.org.

I think so.

We met with her this morning, in Lebanon. NO. Not for I. For the wife. She had been referred to her.

When I read her bio — above — I just couldn’t believe what I was reading. Sounded true good to be true. The type of doctor I had been hoping to someday find.

Well, she proved to be as GOOD as what she claimed in the bio — if not better.

IMPRESSIVE.

Young, but sure knows her stuff. Confident, self-assured, poised — but very low-key & non-pushy.

Wow. She actually understands PAIN! She knows the key role the brain & nervous system plays when it comes to pain. WOW. A doctor, at last, that is willing to talk about — even diagnose — central pain (now referred to as ‘Central Sensitization’). She was a revelation.

Over the last 14-year we must have seen at least 8 other so called ‘pain specialist’. They were all, in the end, charlatans. All of them put together (& they were all males) did not have her expertise, acumen & touch.

Wow. I was so impressed. (Have you already kind of got that impression that I kind of liked her?)

Well, I do know a bit about ‘pain’. I have written a book about it. SMILE. Yes, I gave her a copy & she was very gracious in thanking me for it.

I am looking forward to working with her. What a JOY.

Yes, she is native Chinese — in that she was born in China & did some of her schooling there. Great credit to China.

I the past I always tried to find Indian doctors. As of now, I am going to start by looking for Chinese doctors!

She (somewhat) restored my faith in DHMC.

FDA’s Warning Re. CBD — A Bit Too Late In The Game Isn’t it? The Horse Has Already Bolted & Couplated To Boot.

by Anura Guruge

This is STUPID!

They should have done this over a year ago. Too bloody late now.

No. Doesn’t affect or impact I. I wouldn’t touch it if you had paid me. There is nothing I would need it for anyway. What it claims to do with chemicals I can do easier, at no-cost and better by just having a chat with my brain. Brain meditation. SMILE. What can I say.

Interesting that this issue was getting attention in Britain a few weeks ago. Given that I watch ‘Sky News‘ I had seen the start of this documentary. As with most such things from Britain it was well done (at least the bit that I saw).

Well, this is all interesting.

I am just going to sit back and watch the lawsuits roll in. What fun. SMILE.

Drugs! Never did ‘drugs’, never smoked and didn’t start imbibing till I was well past 21. I only had one vice and it was healthy — aerobic and kept you fit. SMILE.

U.S. FDA Warns ‘Dollar Tree’ Of Selling Possibly Unsafe Drugs & Cosmetics.

by Anura Guruge

Click to access ‘CBS News’ original. Google for more.

Wow. This is NOT good. Yes, we shop at ‘Dollar Tree’ — though NOT as much as we used to. I love the $1 junky toys & trinkets they sell — solar-powered holiday gizmos, colorful but cheap decorations for the yard, JAMAICAN beef jerk meat pies, reading glasses, sunglasses etc. etc. But, we don’t really buy and drugs, other than say hydrogen peroxide, 2% hydrocortisone cream and others of that ilk. Most of the ‘generics’ we buy are from Walmart, BUT this FDA warning appears to indicate that Walmart too might be jipping us.

Well, we all need to be on the lookout. This is not good. I am glad that the FDA is looking into this.

Now you know. Now we have been warned. All the best.

‘Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation’ (TMS) For Depression (& Chronic Pain): Brainsway vs. Neurostar.

by Anura Guruge

Into to TMS
from my ‘Central Pain Syndrome‘ (CPS) book.

In the U.S., from what I can determine, the two main (if not only) options for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is based on Neurostar technology or Brainsway technology.

Though they are both classed as TMS they differ in terms of the magnetic stimulation techniques used.

The Brainsway supposedly represents the newer technology. It uses a bigger, more encapsulating H-coil that does cover a larger portion of the brain — and supposedly can go deeper. Neurostar, a pioneer in TMS, uses a 8-coil that does not envelop the brain as much as the H-coil. It is claimed that the H-coil can stimulate brain ’tissue’ 2.4 – 5.7 times deeper than the 8-coil. However, it should also be noted that it is easier to have Sham H-coils (i.e., placebo coils) than it is with 8-coils!

A Brainsway session is 15 minutes shorter per session than a Neurostar session; 22 minutes vs. 37 minutes.

Neurostar uses rTMS (as described in my book above).

Brainstar calls its process Deep TMS (dTMS). I cannot get anybody to tell me, as yet, whether dTMS uses a faster or slower ‘repetition’ rate (i.e., the rate of pulsing) than rTMS.

The Brainstar is still relatively new.

From what I can find there are two other companies that offer TMS products: Magstim and Magvita. I, however, have not found any ‘doctors’ offering TMS using these devices anywhere around New England. I will do more research.

Though only approved for treating Depression per se, TMS, whether rTMS or dTMS, is a viable treatment option for ‘Central Pain Syndrome‘ (CPS) and other instances of Chronic Pain, including Fibromyalgia, since any degree of depression exaggerates your perception of pain.

TMS was FDA approved for treating treatment-resistant depression as as of 2008.

‘Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation’ (TMS) A Promising Cure For Chronic Pain as In ‘Central Pain Syndrome’.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and read here. Wikipedia entry: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transcranial_magnetic_stimulation

From my ‘Central Pain Syndrome‘ (CPS) book.

An interesting treatment option for ‘Central Pain Syndrome‘ (CPS).

It is said to be effective for treatment-resistant depression and is FDA approved as such (as of 2008).

At least some of the pain in chronic pain scenarios is due to depression. So it is possible that TMS works on pain by tackling the depression.

Just want to make sure that you are aware of this treatment option for chronic pain such as that of Central Pain Syndrome and Fibromyalgia.

Calling Addyi (Fibanserin) “Female Viagra” Is Like Comparing An Antibiotic To Aspirin!

It just upsets me no end when I see the headlines calling ‘flibanserin‘, now to be sold as Addyi, “Female Viagra”.

As I have said before Flibanserin is ALL that Viagra is NOT!

So to call it ‘female Viagra’ or ‘Viagra for Women’ is wrong, dead wrong and very misleading. It is like calling an antibiotic aspirin.

Here is one quick way to explain it pictorially (using a diagram I created).

See the HUGE difference. Viagra, Sildenafil, is basically a ‘plumbing’ medication. It increases blood flow. Yes, women can take it and it will increase blood flow to the genital area giving women a nice glow and ‘buzz’ down below. But that is IT!

Viagra, Sildenafil, in men or women in NO WAY helps with desire or arousal. IF you think that Viagra is an aphrodisiac you are going to be in for one heck of a disappointment.

Female Viagra“, as a catchy headline grabber has been in the news this week because a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ‘Advisory Committee‘ voted to give the go ahead to a drug called ‘flibanserin‘ made by Sprout Pharmaceuticals.

Well, Sprout Pharmaceuticals Flibanserin is ALL that Viagra is NOT!

So to call it ‘female Viagra’ or ‘Viagra for Women’ is wrong, dead wrong and very misleading.

Here is one quick way to explain it pictorially (using a diagram I created).

Viagra does one and ONLY one thing and it does it WELL. It facilitates increased blood flow (in the pelvic area) which in men will usually result in an erection. While an erection is always a great start a erection alone has NOTHING, but nothing, to do with sexual satisfaction. You need an orgasm for that. Viagra does NOTHING in the orgasm department. If you are a man, Viagra, with luck, will give you a good solid erection BUT with that YOU are on your own. If you cannot have an orgasm Viagra does NOT want to know. That is not its job. Viagra is really like that adage about leading a horse to water.

I talked about THIS, at length, as item #61 in “Orgasms: 101 Facts & Trivia“. Hence my easy familiarity with it. Check it out.

Flibanserin, on the other hand, has nothing to do with increasing blood flow.

It is actually a REPURPOSED antidepressant medication!

It wasn’t as efficacious as they wanted it to be in terms of helping with depression but it seemed to help with increasing sexual desire.

OK, to be fair, there is debate as to how effective it is. That is a different matter. The first thing we have to clear up is that it should not be confused with Viagra. OK?

The ‘Pink Pill’ Flibanserin from Sprout Pharmaceuticals. It is very, very different from Viagra.
