My Prior Years.
Last year, being the 75th anniversary, was, naturally, BIG. I am glad we commemorated with so much gusto since COVID has put a dent in this year’s participation.
But, with all of what is going on in the U.S., with the UNREST & moronic leadership, today is a wonderful day to BASK in what was THE GLORY of D-Day. What an achievement. A turning point in HISTORY. Maybe we are in the midst of another.
Not much more I can add. A solemn day in the end. Day to reflect, a day to give thanks — that we are speaking English rather than German.

Chinese Lunar New Year 2020 Celebrations Disrupted, Facemasks Abound — But, Boston Still A ‘Go’.
Nothing surprising here. This was to be expected and I am, in reality, amazed that more celebrations have not been cancelled. Boston is a case in point. It is still a go and we have been talking about it multiple times today. Do we go or do we give it a miss. Wife, who invariably is the one more cautious, says she has no problem going. So, it is my call.
We went to an event yesterday. But, that was rather contained in terms of the number of Chinese there — though I appreciate that you only need one carrier.
I will also confess that I do not want to eat Dim Sum, at our China Pearl, if all the staff are wearing face masks. That will just be to off putting. Yes, we have been there when one or two have worn masks because they had a ‘cold’. But, being served my masked servers will seem odd. Strange.
We still have time. We can wait till the last minute.
As I said yesterday, the timing of this 2020 coronavirus outbreak could NOT have been any WORSE!
I will keep you posted.

Wolfeboro, N.H. cancelled theirs today.

The fireworks, BOTH 6:30 & 8:30pm, were ‘just’ CANCELLED.
Bummer. I was checking whether it was 6pm or 6:30pm! Glad I checked.
Haven’t missed a Wolfeboro New Year’s Eve firework show in YEARS.
Shame.
There has been NO ‘First Night‘ in Wolfeboro on December 31, 2019.
There was NO ‘First Night’ in 2018, 2017 or 2016!
Instead there is a ‘Last Night’ that wraps up by 9pm.

This is a magnificent piece of art in it own right, even if you put aside the subject matter. The portraits of the five Allied Commanders are special; portraits Dick Bobnick’s forte.
You really must check this painting out. The detail is incredible.

Nice, easy to follow guide. Just note that the times are LOCAL. So, 5-6 hours ahead of U.S. Eastern.
Remember ‘D-Day 75‘ is June 6, 2019, not June 5. Huge day. You have to pause and give it some thought. Remember. Reflect. Rejoice!

Wolfeboro, N.H.: ‘Last Night 2018’ Fireworks — THE Pictures.
NO post-processing whatsoever.
Click pictures to ENLARGE.
Attribution WILL be enforced.
I have always maintained that there is no such thing as a bad fireworks show. They are all good, by default and definition.
So, these fireworks, at the ungodly early hour of 6:30pm, were good. People liked them. They applauded and honked their horns. So, that alone was good.
It was sure cheerful and a nice prelude to the snowstorm that was on the way. As it transpires the timing kind of worked out. Per the weather forecasts it did start snowing sharp at 8pm.
Not that many people and Wolfeboro was rather quiet. No traffic, whatsoever.
To I, New Year’s Eve is not complete without fireworks. So, I am indeed glad that we went.

Wolfeboro, N.H.: No ‘First Night’ For 2019 (i.e., December 31, 2018) BUT There Is A ‘Last Night’.
For 2019 – 2020 UPDATE, i.e., Dec. 31, 2019.
This was also the case last year and the year before.
No ‘First Night’, with a midnight fireworks, as there used to be — instead a ‘Last Night’ that wraps up by 9pm.
An early end will not be a bad thing in 2018 since we will be getting snow/ice/rain around that time.

Beaujolais Nouveau 2015 — The Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Bottle Label?
.

by Anura Guruge
Attacks in Paris means we have to TONE DOWN 2015 Beaujolais Nouveau Day.
That is a given.
Yes, we have to observe SOME MOURNING.
This, as I posted, was what was originally purported to be the
Georges Duboeuf label for their Beaujolais Nouveau 2015.
That could still VERY WELL be the case for the U.S.
But, here is a picture of the Georges Duboeuf 2015 Beaujolais Nouveau bottles, 3,200 of them, that arrived at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport on October 31, 2015 — the Japanese, as I have mentioned, BIG on the Nouveau.
I, again, stress that the U.S. 2015 Georges Duboeuf could be different. The Japanese label too much like ones used in prior years.
For ALL the ‘Beaujolais Nouveau’ posts from past years:
