Was It Providential That President Joe Biden, A Devout Catholic, Will Have A Black Cardinal In D.C.

Cardinal Wilton Gregory is going to be a very busy prelate. Very Catholic Joe Biden will ‘lean’ on him heavily & he will become part of his ‘cabinet’. All good. Nothing bad. I do NOT know Wilton Gregory. But, I will find out. He seems OK. Did a nice job today.

I went & checked exactly as to when he was named as a cardinal. It was BEFORE the November 3, 2020 election. SMILE. But, NOT by much. Just a week. So, unless the pope had a message from his Boss this was coincidental — but providential.

Wow. What was he thinking. He had to have been rather desperate & ‘sick’. Feel bad for him.

Ambassador to D.C. no less. That is kind of close to home in that my adoptive father was Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to D.C. from 1992 — 1994 (when he retired, aged 65.)

After all the spate of positive stories about New Zealand (albeit in the wake of the horrible mosque massacre) this is quite a shame. New Zealanders, in general, must be mortified. I feel for them. I guess he is most likely headed to prison.

“Mark Felt” Movie (2017) On Starz — Very Topical, Insightful & Taut.

Mark Felt, The FBI Associate Director from May 3, 1972 to June 22, 1973, was the infamous ‘Watergate‘ ‘Deep Throat‘ to Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein of The Washington Post.

Given what is happening in D.C. right now, it is one heck of a topical movie. They could not have timed it better. Provides you with great insights into the FBI, their command structure and how things are supposed to happen.

I am not a ‘Watergate’ buff and have not read (and cannot remember seeing) ‘All The President’s Men‘. It was kind of before my time; I was at the time living in the U.K. and having the time of my life in College. American politics were way outside of scope of interest. But, overtime I did learn enough about it to know the general plot, the main characters and what transpired. As such it was not difficult for I to follow and enjoy this movie.

What I was struck, repeatedly, was the parallels with what has been going on in D.C. with Comey, Andrew McCabe, Robert Muller etc. Fascinating. Like watching history repeating itself.

Highly recommended. The movie is readily available. I DVRed it off Starz.

Has Donald Trump Been To Church In D.C. Other Than On “National Prayer Day”?

Today was a Sunday, and for once, Trump was in D.C. — and was NOT playing golf.

Then it occurred to me. Other than on the much publicized “National Prayer Day“, I have not heard of Trump attending church in D.C. — and given that I am a news junkie I tend to hear/see this stuff.

Obama and other presidents made a point of going to church in D.C. on a fairly regular basis.

Strange this.

Trump is supposed to be our Evangelical President — albeit with his propensity for groping females.

So, what gives?

How can HE get away with this. This impunity ….

OK, just for the record he is not my real cousin though he is definitely considered very much family. He has been in the family for over 35 years, ever since he was 12. He lived with my parents for a long time.

He has worked in D.C. Embassies since 1992 — starting when my father was the Sri Lankan Ambassador to D.C.

He now works for the Canadian Embassy (and loves it).

This picture was taken Monday afternoon at the Canadian Embassy and includes some of the support staff.

It, as proclaimed by the seal at the bottom, is an official, ‘Office of the Prime Minister’ photograph. So, I think it is very much public domain — though Upali sent it to me and said it was ‘OK’ to post. I blurred out the other faces out of a surfeit of caution — given today’s sad climate.

Just thought it would be cool to share.

Presidents have met prior popes at airports. Regan met John Paul II twice at airports in Alaska — when both of them were enroute, by plane.

George W. Bush welcomed Benedict XVI at Andrews on April 15, 2008.

Obama is emulating that though it is NOT the norm for a president to greet an arriving pope or Head of State at the airport.

Yep, this pope actually said that. Capitalism, the “dung of the devil”!

I don’t have to make this stuff up. This pope is the master of putting his flat foot (and yes he is flat footed as you would know IF you read my latest pope book) in his mouth.

Well, Francis is scheduled to address a joint session of U.S. Congress, on Capitol Hill, in Washington D.C., at 9:20 am on Tuesday, September 24, 2015 during his 6-day, September 22 to 27 visit to the U.S.

John Boehner, a devout Catholic invited him to address Congress, towards the end of 2014. Pope Francis will become the first pope to have done so.

Boehner’s invitation was before the Pope start his all out rampage in 2015 against capitalism and global warming.

Some members of Congress, particularly Republicans, are likely to have issues with what the pope has been saying, of late, about capitalism and global warming. Not sure whether they will want to be ‘seen’ with a man that is bashing an INSTITUTION so near and dear to them. Isn’t calling capitalism the ‘dung of the devil’ what you would expect from an out and out commie? [Talking of which why was Francis taken back when he was presented a Crucifix in the form of a commie hammer and sickle?] So basically Congress will be addressed by a commie! Not sure how that will go down.

This is going to be interesting. Mark the day. Tuesday, September 24, 2015.
