7-Weeks After My Knee Surgery (1-Week Off Crutches) I Was Walking 10K Steps A Day.

Quite an increase from the 4-weeks prior
though I was beginning to increase my
range despite the crutches.

So far, close to 10-weeks post surgery I am doing pretty well — even if I say so myself. NO PAIN, whatsoever — other than when I try to bend my knee beyond 30º. I have a feeling that this might be permanent. But, I could live with that, especially now that I am 65.

Still wearing a STIFF, knee-locking brace 23.4×7! Take it off for two twenty-minute stretches to do knee exercises. I now have 3 braces, and I have basically stopped using the DonJoy.

Also still using a cane when I walk. Can walk without it and do occasionally. I now also have a collection of walking sticks!

I had my quadriceps tendon repair surgery,
at ‘
Frisbie Memorial Hospital‘ —
performed by Dr. Charles Blitzer
of ‘Seacoast Orthopedics
on Thursday, March 7, 2019.

There was no pain to talk about
— throughout, from surgery to now.

Coming up to 8-weeks since knee surgery. Getting around with a stick.

This was at the timeshare cottage we stayed at. Very nice. They had this large mirror above the fireplace.

6-Weeks After My Knee Surgery I Am Off Crutches — Walking With A Cane.

Dramatic increase in my step count yesterday & today.

Today’s first real walk in 6-weeks.

I think I walked further (but didn’t have the ‘proper’ GPS setting). C’est la vie.

‘Hampton Beach’, New Hampshire, On Crutches — April 13, 2019.

Anura Guruge on crutches on Hampton Beach New Hampshire

It was supposed to be 70°F at the beach (viz. Hampton Beach), so we went. It actually got up to 74°F. Brilliant day. Looks like the one and only day of Spring 2019 in New Hampshire.

Wasn’t sure whether I could walk on the sand in crutches. Wasn’t a problem. Piece of cake — actually.

3-more days on crutches. Will be glad to ditch them.

Doing OK. This was in Wolfeboro. I was getting ready to go for a walk along ‘Cotton Valley Trail‘ on crutches. I did some of it, but it was cold and windy.

As you might have noticed I am not shaving as much as I used to prior to the injury.

Still on crutches and a full, locked leg brace — but still insisting on hobbling about. Both legs are atrophying in front of my eyes. But, no pain. Of that, I am glad. I was dreading having to live with pain.

As far as I know, I have to be on crutches for 2 more weeks. If they try to force me to use them any longer we are going to have an issue. I am resigned that I will have to wear a knee brace for the rest of my life. I probably will need to wear two — one on top of the other.

Well 3-weeks post surgery and I am still around. Sorry.

Here is I, waving to YOU with one of my crutches.

I knew I was doing around 2,500-steps a day, as of Day #2 post surgery. I, of course, track — and of late even log — my steps. Yes, per Fitbit 2,500 is about 1-mile. Wow. I had NOT thought about it as such.

I have NO IDEA whether this is good, bad or indifferent when it comes to crutches. First time on crutches — ever.

It is still COLD in New Hampshire. Temperature did not go much above 38°F all day. So, not easy to go out and hobble about — though I did do that a couple of days. Getting bundleed up while on crutches is just complicated.

I am happy. I think this is not bad for a 35-year old cripple.

Just for comparison, this was March 2018.
