We The Brits, Always GREAT, Are Truly FREE Again, Jan. 1, 2021 — I Waited A Very Long Time For This.

THE Referendum, the 2nd Referendum, was in 2016. That was 4 years ago.
YES, we separated from the EU on January 1, 2020 (Brussels time) — BUT the final divorce decree was NOT until today.
But, now it is all done & dusted.
After nearly fifty years we are FINALLY FREE again.
The last 4-years, post the referendum, was torturous.
So much drama, so much duplicity, so much incompetence, so much heartache, so much intrigue.
But that is all in the past.
IT IS DONE.
BREXIT IS REAL.
We the Brits, Always GREAT, are totally FREE Again.
I am so, so happy & relieved.
What a great day.
As a (full (with right-of-residency)) British citizen, of long standing, & one heck of a British Patriot, I feel quite strongly about who should & should not be getting British citizenship — as the above post will amply testify.
I strongly believe that, as it was in the 1950s, 1960s & 1970s, those from the British Commonwealth — as I was — should be given priority & precedence when it comes to being granted British citizenship.
From that standpoint, I empathize with my (semi-)Brits in Hong Kong. I would like you to get citizenship & have the option of fleeing Hong Kong.
I like Hong Kong. I have visited twice. I like the Chinese — and of that there can never be any doubt or debate.
I am TORN.
Hong Kong was NEVER a British Commonwealth nation. Yes, I know that that wasn’t their fault per se. So, technically, they don’t meet my #1 criteria. I can overlook that. Bit of a technicality. They were pseudo Commonwealth. I will acknowledge that.
But, here is my real concern & fear.
Hong Kong is NOT A TRUE cricket playing country!
There is more genuine cricket in Afghanistan than there is in Hong Kong!
I do NOT expect everyone applying for British citizenship to be a current — or former — cricket player. Heavens no. I am NOT that unreasonable.
But, I would like them to LIKE cricket!
I can even make an exception to that. I just expect them to come from a country where cricket is a major sport.
That is fair. Very fair.
Think about it.
As far as I am concerned cricket is what differentiates us (from the rest of the world) & also unites us.

Nope, nope — I am fine, thank you. I became a full citizen, with unrestricted right-of-residence in 1983. But, to be fair, that does have a bearing on why I am NOT happy with this, ‘you must score at least 70-points to qualify’, post-Brexit immigration policy.
I was all in favor of Brexit — as was well known. Part of my rationale was to stop any ‘riff-raff’ from Europe having automatic rights to live and work in my beloved Britain.
So, I, in general, aren’t totally opposed to a MERIT-BASED immigration policy. I got my Green Card on merit — possessing skills not (then) readily available in the U.S.
My GRIPE has to do with my British Commonwealth.
This immigration policy makes NO exceptions for those from the Commonwealth. That is BLOODY WRONG.
In the old days, and I am now talkings the 1950s, 60s & 70s, the British immigration policy was heavily weighed in favor of us from the Commonwealth. And that is how it should be. IF you love and play cricket you get preferential treatment. Period.
I have an easy fix. Keep the 70-point system, but automatically give anyone from the Commonwealth 20-points, right-up-front. I will be OK with that.
What do YOU think?

Though a reluctant ex-pat (for way too many decades) Brexit is dear to I. I never wanted my GREAT Britain (in which I had lived very contentedly since 1969) to join the E.U. As I explained in my earlier post of today, I wanted GREAT Britain to put MY COMMONWEALTH first and foremost. Commonwealth first. All other countries well below those of the Commonwealth. That is how it used to be. I am the proud & patriotic product of the British Commonwealth. I will not betray my roots and values.
I wanted to mark the occasion.
6pm Eastern was perfect. I was in front of our big TV at 5:58pm to celebrate. Made sure Teischan was with I. She understands Brexit. It was good.
I am GLAD. A relief.
But, I fully appreciate that the heavy lifting starts as of now.

Unlike many I am NOT a new Brexiter. I was always against MY beloved GREAT Britain joining the E.U. I wanted ‘Brexit‘ way back 44-years AGO in 1975. Yes, 1975 — 44-years ago. I proudly voted ‘NO’ in that 1st ‘Brexit’ referendum in 1975. I was among the 20% who wanted to leave at that juncture. But, WE, obviously, were RIGHT. It took the others 40-years to realize what we already knew.
I, for very obvious reasons, is a ‘Commonwealthist’. I want union, I want trade deals, I want mutual aid, I want ‘open’ borders — BUT with OUR GLORIOUS and proud British Commonwealth, first & foremost. Unlike, say Poland, we never, especially in 1973, needed a new trading block. We had the Commonwealth. We still do.
So, that has always been my primary rationale. British Commonwealth, first & foremost WITH GREAT BRITAIN always at the top. Never, first among equals.
Brexit is a good thing. Yes, I appreciate that we now have many hurdles ahead of us. That does scare I. I do NOT want GREAT Britain broken up! I want us united and standing firm with OUR Commonwealth.
I like open-borders BUT do NOT agree that being part of the EU is good for my Britain. I would rather have controlled immigration from Africa than from Ukraine. All immigrants to Britain must understand how to play cricket! That should be the criteria.
Boris Johnson is going to be GOOD FOR I. The UK Sterling Pound will be stronger which means that the two pensions I get from the UK will be slightly higher. It is not much so the increase will be marginal. But, better than a kick in the teeth. Boris will also be good for the stock market.
But, Boris scares I. So, I will have to keep an eye on him. Let’s start with Brexit. Lets see if he can make it happen.
For NOW I am happy.
I Created ‘Boxing Day’ & ‘Christmas’ Challenge Badges For My ‘Mates’ At ‘Garmin’ Since Some Were Having Withdrawal.

— where I lurk about, more than I should.
Garmin is supposed to automatically provide such ‘challenge’ badges for going out and doing some activity on a holiday. People are accustomed to it and look forward to earning them. So, for example, they did one for ‘Thanksgiving‘.
Well, it appears, that Garmin forgot to do one for Christmas 2019. Wow. So many folks were bummed. Beside themselves. So, I created one for them and told them that only those that were on Santa’s GOOD LIST (as I was) could get the badge. Folks appreciated my efforts.
We had fun.
Enjoy. Happy Boxing Day.
I am off to watch the highlights of TWO Boxing Day Test matches. Lucky I.

It distresses me, greatly, each year, that they do not understand, let alone celebrate, Boxing Day. It must have been celebrated at some stage in the past. Shame it did not endure.
It is, of course, celebrated in Canada — where it is an official holiday (as it should be).
Yes, a wonderful, endearing and enduring British Commonwealth tradition.
I still celebrate it in my heart and in my case, everyday is A HOLIDAY.
But, I started watching the Boxing Day Test, from Melbourne, at 11pm on Christmas Day.
So, HAPPY BOXING DAY, 2017.
The MUST WATCH trailer on YouTube.
We were going to watch Season 1 of the PBS “Victoria” on Amazon Prime when I saw this. We had seen the trailer earlier in the year and had DEFINITELY wanted to see it. So, without hesitation, I rented it, in HD format (for the customary 48-hours) for $5.99 from Amazon. I am so glad that I did. It was excellent.
Loved it. Incredibly funny. Touchingly cute. And as we British would contend, “warms the cockles of your heart“.
It said at the start that it was a “true story — or most of it”. That made it even more special. I have since discovered that it is indeed so, though the movie, no doubt, took some poetic licenses.
Highly, highly recommended. Ideal movie for these days. Reminds you what loyalty and service is all about.
Set us up, nicely, for Season 2 of “Victoria“, on PBS, in January 2018.

Yet AGAIN, and now it is becoming a trend,
capricious, erratic, CONFUSING reach.
Why NOT the WHOLE British Commonwealth?
Why South Korea, Taiwan and Italy?
The ORIGINAL Magna Carta.
