I also share this with YOU (especially for those that have never heard “Christmas at King’s” before.

To I, having had the pleasure & honor of growing up in Britain, “Christmas at King’s” epitomized Christmas.

I was lucky to hear for of the 2019 Festival, on NPR, this morning, during my walk. Made my day.

So, I share with you, with great pleasure.

2019 Chanukah (Hanukkah) On December 22 — Closer To Christmas Than Last 2-Years, But Still No Cigar.

by Anura Guruge

Definitely not a ‘Chrismukkah‘ as it was kind of in 2016
& for sure, for sure in 2005.

The first night of Chanukah/Hanukkah can fall anywhere from November 27 to December 26 (Boxing Day). So, it can definitely fall on Christmas day or thereabouts. It fell on Christmas Eve in 2016 and there was much excitement — especially among those that have friends and family across both faiths.

Since it is an 8-day celebration it can still be going on at Christmas even if its start does not coincide with Christmas day per se. That would be the case this year. It will definitely span Christmas and stretch all the way close to New Year’s Eve.

That was NOT the case last year (2018) and the year before (2017). Chanukah/Hanukkah started in ‘early’ December. But, not so this year. It starts 3-days before. Close, but no cigar.

The jackpot will be in 2024 — when it will AGAIN be on Christmas Day.

Last time it fell on December 22 was in 1989 — 30-years ago.

Christmas Eve 2018 Candlelight Service At The ‘First United Methodist Church Of Gilford’.

When we lived in Gilford (2002 — 2007) going to this church for the Christmas Eve service became a cherished tradition — though I am a lifelong heathen. We stopped going when we moved to Alton. Well, we rectified that today. First time back in eleven-years methinks.

It was good. It is a nice, friendly, non-judgmental church — and we even met some folks we knew from way back.

Despite being a heathen I don’t mind going to church. I have probably been to church nearly as much as many Christians. I like the architecture, the trappings, the ceremonial elements and above all the music. The music did not disappoint today. There was a rendition of “O, Holy Night” by a soloist, Karen Jordan, that was exceptional. WOW. It was worth going just for that.

So, set us up for Christmas.

Merry Christmas.

2017 Chanukah (Hanukkah) On December 12 — Definitely Not ‘Chrismukkah’.

by Anura Guruge

Chanukah/Hanukkah last year (i.e., 2016) being on Christmas Eve was exciting and special, a ‘Chrismukkah’ — and we were lucky enough to be gifted Hanukkah Christmas Tree Topper. See picture above.

This year it is 13-days ahead of Christmas.

In 2018 it will be 23-days before Christmas.

Then it 2019 we will again be within spitting distance, only to draw away again the next year.

The jackpot will be in 2024 — when it will AGAIN be on Christmas Day.

Sri Lanka’s World’s Tallest Christmas Tree Is Back On — And To Be Lit, Uncompleted On Christmas Eve, 2016.

by Anura Guruge

Work restarted after a 10-day halt!

Amazing. So, so, so Sri Lankan.

The artificial tree, made from scrap metal, was at 187 feet (57 meters) on Christmas Eve 2016.

That is not close to the record set by Mexico City with a 361.25 feet (110 meter) artificial Christmas tree. The world’s tallest living Christmas tree is 160 feet tall.
