Happy Hanukkah (or Chanukah) 2019, December 22 — 30: A Holiday That Jesus Would Have Celebrated.

I am never sure as to what the right greeting should be for many of the Jewish holidays, BUT I know that when it comes to Chanukah “happy” is the right word.

So, Happy Chanukah/Happy Hanukkah. Enjoy.

As for the Jesus angle. What can I say. I am sure that over 50% of Americans, if asked, will say that Jesus celebrated Christmas. About 90% of Americans think he spoke English and about the same think that he was a Christian.

2019 Chanukah (Hanukkah) On December 22 — Closer To Christmas Than Last 2-Years, But Still No Cigar.

by Anura Guruge

Definitely not a ‘Chrismukkah‘ as it was kind of in 2016
& for sure, for sure in 2005.

The first night of Chanukah/Hanukkah can fall anywhere from November 27 to December 26 (Boxing Day). So, it can definitely fall on Christmas day or thereabouts. It fell on Christmas Eve in 2016 and there was much excitement — especially among those that have friends and family across both faiths.

Since it is an 8-day celebration it can still be going on at Christmas even if its start does not coincide with Christmas day per se. That would be the case this year. It will definitely span Christmas and stretch all the way close to New Year’s Eve.

That was NOT the case last year (2018) and the year before (2017). Chanukah/Hanukkah started in ‘early’ December. But, not so this year. It starts 3-days before. Close, but no cigar.

The jackpot will be in 2024 — when it will AGAIN be on Christmas Day.

Last time it fell on December 22 was in 1989 — 30-years ago.

Last Time Chanukah (Hanukkah) Started On December 2 Was 38-Years Ago.

by Anura Guruge

Yes, last time Chanukah (Hanukkah) started on December 2 was 1980. 38-years ago.

Prior to that it was 1961, 1923 & 1904.

This makes it the 5th time since 1900.

As this graph from last year shows that, i.e., 5-times, is par for the course., Nothing to get excited about.

Next time will be 2037 — 19-years from now (and interestingly, half the interval from the prior occurrence).

It was also a 19-year gap between 1980 and 1961 … and between 1923 and 1904.

Yes, Chanukah/Hanukkah falls on certain days — within the 30-day range it can fall on — more often than not, though over, the last 118 years, the distribution has been fairly even, as one would hope (and expect).

December 7, for whatever reason, has been more favored than any other.

December 12, as in 2017, has had 5, which is a fairly common.

The first day of the range, November 27, as can often be the case, has only had 2 ‘showings’.

Enjoy.

Roku Adds A Hanukkah Channel Ahead Of The December 12, 2017 Start Of Chanukah (Hanukkah).

Pretty neat. If you have a Roku (and everybody really should have one) just search channels for ‘Hanukkah‘.

It should be fun and informative — and how can you go wrong when they cover both music and cooking.

Enjoy.

2017 Chanukah (Hanukkah) On December 12 — Definitely Not ‘Chrismukkah’.

by Anura Guruge

Chanukah/Hanukkah last year (i.e., 2016) being on Christmas Eve was exciting and special, a ‘Chrismukkah’ — and we were lucky enough to be gifted Hanukkah Christmas Tree Topper. See picture above.

This year it is 13-days ahead of Christmas.

In 2018 it will be 23-days before Christmas.

Then it 2019 we will again be within spitting distance, only to draw away again the next year.

The jackpot will be in 2024 — when it will AGAIN be on Christmas Day.
