That these two stories, coincidentally or not, were juxtapositioned cracked me up. That though, alas, was the only thing I found amusing.

Not getting plenty of sex, AT LEAST ONCE A DAY, when you are in the your prime is criminal. Distressed me no end. Of course was not the case in the Britain I grew up in and enjoyed the early years of my adult life. Sex, thankfully, was always plentiful. SMILE. Less than once a week when you are in yours 20s & 30s! Jesus wept. Wow. Wasn’t I lucky.

As for the boozing. We drank much too. But, I started late (i.e., when I was 21) and stopped drinking excessively a few years later. But, drinking was very much a part of life. And boy didn’t we have a great time in Britain in the 1960s, 1970s & 1980s?

I hope this will self-correct soon. It has to. Not getting plenty of sex is not normal — for a Brit.

Today, November 5, 2017, Is, Of Course, ‘Guy Fawkes Day’ — ‘Pope Day’ In Boston At One Time.

by Anura Guruge

Good article in this month’s “National Geographic” “History Magazine”. Click image to access online version.

Quite the holiday — and obviously very much my kind of holiday in that it involves bonfires and fireworks.

Of course it roots are religious — Catholics vs Protestants (in Britain) — though it is also seen and portrayed as a political ‘coup’ that went wrong.

That it was celebrated in Boston as an anti-Catholic ‘Pope Day’ is cute.

Well, I have reminded you … “Remember, Remember, the 5th of November“. Guy Fawkes Day — and Guy Fawkes night.

HMS Plym (K271), built in 1943, that served as a detonating platform. Click to ENLARGE.

The U.K. thus became the 3rd Nuclear Power after the U.S.A. and Russia.

It was just over 11-months before I was born. I think many people now forget that WE, THE BRITISH, are a very capable Nuclear Power.

That the explosion was conducted aboard a ship was interesting — befitting us being an Island nation. They, the U.S. and us, wanted to see what would happen if a nuclear bomb was detonated aboard a ship — in harbor. That was a real fear during the Cold War.

Idi Amin Died This Day 14-Years Ago; 16 August 2003.

Idi Amin was a legend in Britain, in the 1970s, during my formative years. I used to subscribe to ‘Punch‘ and they had a weekly Idi Amin column which resulted in this book — which I HAD (and I hope I still have somewhere (though I have a horrible feeling that I lost it along the way).

You know what is frightening?

We now have another President who is no different to Idi — other than being white! SCARY.

Emperor Haile Selassie I, Revered By Rastas, Was Born This Day 125-Years Ago; July 23, 1892.

by Anura Guruge

To be honest I really don’t know much about him. Yes, growing up in Britain in the last 1960s & early 1970s his name would come up as a ‘figure of importance‘ much like Nelson Mandela who was in prison at the time. I know that he was controversial in the later part of his life. But, then again Rastas revere him and even think that he may be divine. So, it would be wrong and churlish not to mark this birth anniversary — especially since it is the 125th.

As with the Bismarck, this is stuff that all those that were fortunate enough to receive an education in Britain knows about.

We lost a LOT of people and ships. But, as ever, we PREVAILED in the end. {SMILE}
