I Am Going To STOP Buying Japanese Cameras Because They Restarted Commercial Whaling!

by Anura Guruge

As of today I am going to STOP buying Japanese cameras, lenses, printers & cars.

I am NOT joking.

Definitely NOT buying anymore Japanese cameras. PROMISE.

I really am SO, SO angry.

Killing whales is so unnecessary. The demand for whale meat in Japan has even FALLEN.

Yes, I fully appreciate that we kill other animals for meat, but the majority of that is ‘farm’ animals.

The despicable Japanese. They never learn. Greedy, heartless, no-shame BASTARDS, Well, we know how they acted prior to and during WW II. They have not changed. Alas.

I am hoping that the sea will enact its revenge! You work that one out. Killing whales, natures beautiful gift to us.

And, alas, not being a vegetarian I do see their point. But, whales? Can’t we control our urges.

I really hope that countries exact sanctions against them. That is all they understand. Money, money, money.

I have to start boycotting Japanese products.

Doesn’t matter that they, damn them, have a monopoly on cameras. I will stop by cameras! I am NOT joking. I am deadly serious.

Damn the Japanese.

I guess I will have to start thinking Hasselblad! {SMILE}

So Disgusted With The DAMN Japanese For Restarting Commercial Whaling.

This makes me so, so upset and sad. We, in 2019, are back to commercial whaling. Don’t we ever learn. The despicable Japanese. They never learn. Greedy, heartless, no-shame BASTARDS, Well, we know how they acted prior to and during WW II. They have not changed.

I am hoping that the sea will enact its revenge! You work that one out. Killing whales, natures beautiful gift to us. Why? They will claim for the meat.

And, alas, not being a vegetarian I do see their point, but whales? Can’t we control our urges.

I really hope that countries exact sanctions against them. That is all they understand. Money, money, money.

I am seriously thinking of boycotting Japanese products — but they, damn them, have a monopoly on cameras.

Damn the Japanese.

Sri Lanka Cricketers Wear Masks In Delhi During 3rd Test — Too Ashamed To Show Their Faces.

by Anura Guruge

I first saw this whole sorry incident in the 2nd day Highlights on Willow.

I was incredulous!

I then went and watched the ball-by-ball video to get the whole picture.

It came across as GAMESMANSHIP! It was embarrassing. Sri Lanka continues to further its reputation as unsporting cricketers. That is shame.

Yes, they are being totally outclassed by India and it must be hard to be in the field getting pounded by the Indians — especially Koli.

But the mask thing just made them look petty and pathetic. It really came across that they were, quite rightly, too ashamed to show their faces.

It upset me. I hate to see the spirit of cricket being besmirched.

There should be further action. The whole team should be FINED.

Other teams should REFUSE to play Sri Lanka. Boycott them until they learn some manners.

This suffice to say is extremely distressing and aggravating even if you are not a dog person (as we are). Deanna saw this earlier today and was most upset and wanted me to cover it ASAP.

It is hard to fathom how this could have gone on for this long, in affluent Wolfeboro — the ‘Oldest Summer Resort in America’ and home to celebrities like Mitt Romney NOT to mention the world capital of heated driveways to avoid shoveling snow. Yes, to be fair the mansion is on a back road in a very secluded part of town.

I am very fond of Wolfeboro and my association with Wolfeboro goes back 26 years. Wolfeboro is a beautiful town and some of the nicest people I know either live or work there. So, I hate seeing stuff like this associated with Wolfeboro. There was a move to boycott Wolfeboro in 2014 because of its then openly racist police chief. But, that, luckily, is behind us now. But, there is still a dark cloud over Wolfeboro — the ‘unsolved’ murder of local mother Stacey Burns over 8 years ago! This horror as such is another black eye for Wolfeboro.

The police and all the associated agencies appear to have done well in terms of the rescue and the arrest. But, that still begs the question as to how this could have gone on for this long without anybody suspecting anything.

This sorry incident raises a number of issues and the need for some New Hampshire laws to be changed:

  1. Appears that the perpetrator of this evil, Christina Fay, despite her apparent wealth, will NOT be on the hook to pay for ANY of the huge costs that will be associated with taking care of these 84 dogs! That is wrong, wrong, wrong. The law should be changed, at once, to make sure that perpetrators are fully liable for all costs and that the State can go after all of their property.
    ….
  2. It appears that she managed to skirt the requirements for a Commercial Breeder License. That too is wrong. How can you have 84 dogs and still claim not to be a Commercial Breeder, That has to be looked into.
    ….
  3. Right now she has only been charged with two misdemeanors! 84-dogs and only two misdemeanors. That is NOT right.

The extremist Buddhists, ably spurred on by unscrupulous hard-line Buddhist monks, have become totally out-of-control in Burma and Sri Lanka.

What is happening in Myanmar (Burma) is inexcusable. This new population control law, to hopefully curb the growth of the non-Buddhist minorities, is BEYOND a joke. But, alas it is very real.

Sri Lankan Buddhists, always ready to ape anything and everything bad from Burma, will no doubt try to pass a similar law.

How come there is NO Global OUTRAGE?

Talk about trampling all over BASIC human rights? We are talking about the right to reproduce.

This is wrong.

All Buddhists, around the World, should speak out against this.

Burma should face trade sanctions and boycotts — and so should Sri Lanka IF they too insist on trying to ape Burma.

I am NO longer a Buddhist BUT as a child I was inculcated with more Buddhism than most. Google (or check Amazon) with “Guruge Buddhism“. So I do know my Buddhism much, much better and more insightfully than most. So trust me on this. This is NOT what Buddhism is about. Buddhism, not a religion per se, is about compassion, MODERATION and tolerance. Just ask YOURSELF, if you are a Buddhist, “what would Buddha say?”

All Buddhists, Especially Those In Sri Lanka, Should Be Ashamed Of What Is Happening In Myanmar (Burma).

Google ‘refugees’, ‘Myanmar’ or ‘Burmese’ for many, many other articles.

I have over the last year repeatedly spoken out against the misguided, extremely insecure extremist Buddhists in Sri Lanka. The extremist Buddhists in Burma, the inspiration for what is taking place in Sri Lanka, are even worse!

There is hardly any coverage of what is taking place in Myanmar (Burma) these days — with the extremist Buddhists, just like in Sri Lanka, trying to purge the minorities.

In the last 48 hours I have seen headlines talking about “SAVAGE Buddhists”! That a decade ago would have been an oxymoron.

Savage Buddhists?

How could that be. It is a religion of compassion. A religion of tolerance.

I am NOT a Buddhist. But I grew up in an extremely activist Buddhist household. My adopted father, to my shame, became an extremist Buddhist (albeit in his old age) — as are many of my cousins (though age alone cannot be used as an excuse by them).

Growing up Buddhist I thought that tolerance was a virtue. Despite ardency of the Buddhism in our household we had Christians in the family and our BEST friends were Christians and Muslims. This is why extreme Buddhism in Sri Lanka, to me, makes NO SENSE. My adopted father’s BEST FRIEND was Senator Abdul Aziz (who at the time was one of the richest men in Ceylon). Because of kidnapping fears (mainly from the Catholics) I was ONLY allowed to approach two cars, after school, at 1pm — IF my father couldn’t be there because he had been detained at work. One was Uncle Amarasinghe’s car (and he was somebody that my father had gone to school with) and the other was Senator Aziz’s black Peugeot (driven by his wonderful driver). So 40 years hence when I see my adopted father supporting extreme Buddhist monks who advocate violence against Muslims it confuses me.

I have NO patience for extremist Buddhists.

I have already put forth my solution to curb some of their vigor. At a MINIMUM Pakistan, Bangladesh and UAE should REFUSE to play cricket against Sri Lanka. Ideally the cricketing world should do to Sri Lanka what they did to South Africa for ’20’ years. Boycott them until they renounce Buddhist apartheid.

This persecution of non-Buddhists by Buddhists has to stop — Worldwide. It is Wrong. What would the Buddha Say? He was not perfect, BUT I am sure of one thing about him — he would NOT have condoned violence. The notion of ‘savage Buddhists’ would have appalled him. So IF you are a Buddhist cut out this nonsense, not for you, not for me — but for the sake of the Buddha.

It Is HARD To Credit But New England Market Basket (MA, NH, ME) Does NOT Have A Website!

It is very clear about it — it is NOT the official Website

It is easy to get fooled on the Home Page.

notmarketbasketasas2

After my earlier post on hand sanitizers, or the lack thereof, I thought it would be easy to send the link to Market Basket through their Website.

Well that was not be the case.

When you Google ‘Market Basket‘ the above Website comes up at the top — looking very much like the bona fide site. Not so. IF you go to the ‘Contact’ tab, as I did (looking for an e-mail or a form), I found the disclaimer.

It is interesting that there are other food chains with the same name. There is also a very vicious site which comes up if you Google ‘Demoulas‘.

So I ended up having to call up the Market Basket, on Fort Eddy Road, in Concord, N.H., using the phone number that was on the receipt from our earlier shopping trip. Spoke to the assistant manager. (See update at the bottom.)

He confirmed that ‘Market Basket’ does NOT have a Website. I was amazed. Is it the last holdout when it comes to Websites. Wow.

‘New’ Market Basket — Arthur T. Demoulas PLEASE Don’t Skimp On Hand Sanitizer.

As the above listed posts would amply testify I am a HUGE fan of Market Basket and of Arthur T. Demoulas (and my association with Demoulas’, on a family basis, goes back 30 years).

My wife and kids joke that I can’t be within a 10 miles radius of the Market Basket in Concord, N.H. without finding an excuse to stop there.

I vocally supported the boycott last year and I was beyond thrilled that Arthur T. finally got total control of the chain.

So, I was bummed today that ‘they’ — and this could just be a misguided decision just at the Fort Eddy Store in Concord, N.H. — are trying to economize on public hand sanitizers!

Come on.

Yes, of course, everything has a price, Market Basket (rightly) works on thin margins and every cent makes a difference.

But, come on. Cutting back on hand sanitizers!

As they would have said at my rather exclusive Public School in London “Play the White Man”!

I was amazed. They used to have two large dispensers, of the paper kind, at each of the two entrances/exists. Today they were gone.

I went and asked a manager — or at least a guy in a red jacket. I think his name was “Sean” and he had a tag that said “22 years”. This was around 1pm, Monday, May 11, 2015. [Look it up.]

He said that they had to REMOVE the dispensers because the WIND from the entrances were drying out the napkins. They were losing 2,000 a day from the wind.

I pointed out that you can get other types of sanitizers — e.g., liquid. He didn’t even bother to respond. This guy was pompous and ignorant. Not what I had ever seen with Demoulas management. Never mind him. He can’t help it.

I just would like MORE hand sanitizers.

Yes, as is ALWAYS the case with my apparent madness there is a good reason. I get cheese ends, whenever I can, at Market Basket. I love the VARIETY. 30 shades of cheese in one shrink wrapped package. I like to start devouring the cheese even while I am at the checkout. No, I am NOT cheating them. It is already weighed and their is a label with the original price. But I like to sanitize my hands BEFORE I break into the packet.

So Arthur T. — please.

Give me back my hand sanitizers. Liquid ones will be fine.

And PLEASE talk to ‘Sean’. Some of us do KNOW what we are talking about

5pm, Monday, May 11, 2015 UPDATE.

I just spoke to an ‘Assistant Manager’ at Fort Eddy, Market Basket. Appears that the hand sanitizer policy is, indeed, handed down to them from up high. The napkin variety, supposedly, is the ONLY type they are permitted to use — least aggressive and meets OSHA standards. Well I asked him to escalate the matter.

Market Basket (as in the New England stores) does NOT have a Website! He confirmed that.

Did YOU REALLY think I would let you look at my account? Wow. Give me a call. I have some great real estate I can sell YOU.

Starting yesterday they want us, i.e., Fidelity online customers, to test drive the new user interface. I was in a hurry yesterday, BUT did.

I kind of like it. LOTS of information on one busy screen BUT I like data. I am a strong believer that you can never have enough data. So in that respect I am a believer.

All the columns are also sortable. That can be handy, BUT be aware of it. IF you accidentally did a sort, all your positions will be in the ‘wrong’ places, BUT there should be a THICK underline below the column that is currently active in terms of the sort. IF the thick underline is NOT under ‘Symbol’ then your positions will not be in alphanumeric order. Remember that.

Yes, ‘Pending Activity’ is also still there BUT not as prominently. Look for it below. You can click on the ‘+’ to expand it.

The ‘Options Summary’ is neat. I could get addicted to that.

The one thing that really sucks. ‘Current Value’ & ‘Quantity’ are columns 5 & 6 respectively. That is awkward.

I called up Fidelity and, as ever, spoke with a very nice Rep. He ‘confessed’ that I wasn’t the first person to complain about this. Even he didn’t like it.

We agreed that the BEST solution would be to give us the option to reorder the columns. That would be REAL neat.

Found something else and just conveyed it to Fidelity. Screens do NOT automatically resize. So if you move an open tab from one screen to another, as I can and will do — with my dual-monitor set up — the tab doesn’t automatically resize. YOU have to manually hit the Windows resize button at the top. Fidelity now knows about it.

So that is about it. I like it. It is a LOT. I will get used to it. IF they give us movable columns it could be real nice.

Click to ENLARGE. This afternoon’s ‘On24’ Webcast technology based Browser pane I had for my online training event. I was impressed. Worked well.

As I have alluded to before, multiple times, I do play options and have done so for nearly twenty years. But, I just do covered calls. That I understand how to do, quite well, given that over the years I must have written hundreds of them.

But, I have no clue about any of the other option strategies. Today I heard ‘Iron Condor’. I have NO CLUE.

Over the years I have promised myself that I will teach myself options. Knowing who I am and what I can do, I do know that I will be able to master options and even be pretty good at it. BUT, I have yet to set out to learn options. I always appear to have some excuse — mainly that I am writing a book. Well, I am writing a book again …

I get a fair amount of e-mails from Fidelity — which is fair enough because I do have a fair amount of transactional volume a week through them. Quite a few of the e-mails have to do with informational or training events. Fidelity no longer calls me to offer me financial advice or access to financial advisors. They have access to my record and performance. They know that I muddle through … and that muddling through is all that I am interested in.

Last week I got an invite for this “Generating option trading ideas using Fidelity’s tools and resources” event — today, at noon. I knew I really should ‘attend’ because Fidelity’s option ‘platform’ totally baffles me. I don’t use it. Good ol’ option-chains is all I need or at least all I use.

I registered, which was not a problem. I got e-mails with a link. This morning I had yet another reminder — which was good. At 11:45, within the 15 minute pre-event window, I clicked and was automatically ‘enrolled’ without having to type in anything.

It was slick. It was seamless. No glitches. Very smooth. I was impressed.

I have, over the years, going back maybe 15 years, used various online Webinar technologies. I am sure this was the first time I had used ‘on24‘ Webcast. I was pleasantly impressed. It did what it had to do with no fuss and to me that is the beauty of a good Webinar tool. It should not get in the way. It should facilitate without getting in your face. That it did.

It was a decent educational Webinar. Yes, after 30 minutes I lost interest. But that is par for the course. I am NOT good, never have been, at any ‘classroom’ based education and training. I have to do it on my terms on my pace. But now I know some places to look.

I am going to bite the damn bullet and get the damn book EVEN if it is not available online. I know that that is what I should start with.

But, I am pleased and impressed with Fidelity and On24 — but, 99.6% of the time I am always impressed with Fidelity. They try and they are good.
