Why Are Refrigerator Ice Makers So Prone To Failure?

Click image to read this post … and follow the whole sorry SAGA.

Just 18-months after getting over the last ice maker fiasco — which, alas, lasted four dreadful months because Samsung is so ornery and incompetent — we are again in the same boat. No ice. Ice maker not working — or not working properly. This time around we can’t stop it! It produces ice non-stop, with ice spilling out and forcing the door open.

Brand new $1,590 Whirlpool — which was said to be super-reliable.

Luckily, after the horrendous experience with Samsung I was not taking chances. Though folks routinely bad-mouth extended store warranties I was not taking any chances. I coughed up $200 for a 5-year “Geek Squad” warranty. Well, they are supposed to be coming tomorrow. We will see how good they are.

But, for now no ice. That doesn’t bother me. Other than when I needed ice for my ice-machine after my knee-surgery I use very little ice, even in the Summer. Not so the kids. They need ice all the time. So, they are not happy.

Please Castrate Me IF I Ever Buy Anything From Best Buy Again. PLEASE.

I Did Not Heed My Own Admonition

& Now I Am $500+ In The Hole.

I am such an IDIOT! So, yes, I deserve to get ripped off and abused and lose $559. My fault. I did NOT follow my own admonition.

There was good mitigating reason. This was a Sony lens and Amazon had a 2-month BACK-ORDER on it. Yes, two-months.

So, I was forced to buy it from Bloody Best Buy. Oh, how I wish I hadn’t.

Well, I got ripped off. Yes, I played right into their hands. Yes, I am an IDIOT.

That is why I deserve to be castrated — though it kind of too late. I should have been castrated when I was 11.

Well, I live, BUT I obviously do NOT learn.

So, PLEASE … please … if you hear that I bought anything from Best Buy just come over and castrate me. I will not protest. I deserve to be castrated.

Yes, I promise NEVER to step into a Best Buy again.

You know the IRONY. I worked as an Epson Product Ambassador at Best Buy and loved it!

Garmin Forerunner 645M (But Not 645) Now Available At Amazon & ‘Heart Rate Monitors USA’.

by Anura Guruge

At Amazon

At Garmin

At Best Buy

At “Heart Rate Monitors USA

Kind of strange and doesn’t make much sense.

Garmin says that it won’t have the Forerunner 645M (the ‘M’ denoting ‘music‘) for 3-5 weeks, WHILE Amazon and Heart Rate Monitors USA” are claiming that they already have it stock and are ready to ship.

On the other hand, the Forerunner 645, which was supposed to be available before the 645M, is NOT in stock. Very strange.

Best Buy, which had the Vivoactive 3 ahead of anybody else, including Garmin, doesn’t have either model. Very strange.

I will, of course, keep you posted. I will be checking on a regular basis.

I Am Getting A Garmin Forerunner 235 For Now.

by Anura Guruge

I relinquished my Vivoactive HR, which I owned (and wore daily, 24×7) for 117-days, on October 9, 2017, i.e., 26-days ago.

I was hoping to get a Vivoactive 3, in Slate, within 2 weeks. Well Garmin seems to have issues with the Slate version. Amazon, as of yesterday, no longer lists it! I had a pre-order at Amazon, BUT I cancelled it.

I thought about getting a Huawei or Samsung BUT decided that that would be shortsighted. I have too much ‘invested’ in Garmin.

I started doing some serious research and STUMBLED upon the Forerunner 235.

The Forerunner 235 will meet my needs — for NOW. {Smile}

When I got the Vivoactive HR in June 2017 I was brand new to activity trackers — and there is, IF you are serious (as I became) a v. steep learning curve.

Yes, the Forerunner 235 is slightly older technology than the Vivoactive HR and the Vivoactive 3. That is a concern.

But, the FR235 is very much a runner’s watch — and that is what I am.

It doesn’t have a Swim or Walk mode, BUT it is Winter now and I can do without. It also does not have a touch screen.

But, being round and black it has the look of a dress watch IF you use an appropriate watch face. That was one of the BIG things I did NOT like about the HR. It looked ugly. I like nice watches (as you would expect from one who wore a diamond-studded, limited-edition Rolex for nearly 30-years).

So, …. That is the story.

I will get a Vivoactive 3 down the road … unless something else comes along. I most likely will keep the FR235 for my runs and the other for the rest of the day. As Winter sets in my running watch will take a BEATING.

Stay tuned. I will keep you posted.V02

P.S., The FR235 has VO2 Max estimation. That should be interesting. At my age, and my level of UNFITNESS, that might be scary. Might tell me that I am indeed the walking dead.

Garmin Vivoactive 3 In Slate — Amazon Deletes Listing!

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and marvel here. Check Amazon IF you don’t believe me.

Click to ENLARGE. The order I had placed a week ago. My order was still pending. I cancelled it.

I went look ‘today’, i.e., Saturday, November 4, 2017, and discovered to my chagrin that Amazon has taken down its listing for the SLATE version — which is the model I wanted.

My order, that I had placed on October 27, 2017, was still pending. I cancelled it.

Not good.

I am getting another Garmin. Can’t wait. The Vivoactive 3 ‘silver’ and ‘white’ leave me cold. So it will NOT be a Vivoactive 3 or a Vivoactive HR (which I previously owned).

I Pre-Ordered A Garmin Vivoactive 3, In Slate, From Amazon …

by Anura Guruge

I have nothing to lose. Amazon will NOT bill me until they ship.

IF it becomes available at Garmin or Best Buy, I will cancel the Amazon order (which I can do easily right up until they ship) and get it from …

I even paid the $3.99 for 1-day delivery! So, let’s see.

I am NOT amused.

Pictures Of Best Buy “Geek Squad” Delivering Large Refrigerator/Freezers Using Just Shoulder Harnesses.

by Anura Guruge

Attribution WILL be enforced.

I had never seen this been done, or even heard about it, until we had our accursed Samsung 25.4 cu. ft. fridge/freezer delivered in April 2017. Click here for those pictures.

I was in awe. That Samsung was 289 pounds (131 kilos). Two people — with no real training. I am surprised it meets U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Act standards. But, it is Best Buy and you would assume that know what they are doing.

Pretty damn impressive.

Well, got to see it again today, when we had the damn Samsung replaced with a (much more expensive) Whirlpool.

Not easy to get good pictures BECAUSE you do NOT want to get in their way or impede them in any way.
