Folks are claiming that it is available in Australia.
ISSUE: The U.S. availability for the new Garmin VENU is still stated as being 5 — 8 weeks, the SAME it was when it was announced 4-weeks ago, on September 5, 2019. Ideally it should now be saying, worst case, 3 — 5 weeks. Yes, Garmin could change this tomorrow to say ‘1 — 3 Days’. It does happen.
The Garmin Forums, however, have had an active ‘VENU’ Forum for at least the last couple of weeks. There are some interesting posts on that Forum. There are those that claim that they already have a VENU. At least one claims he got it from Australia. As you can see, above, I checked. Plausible. But, it doesn’t make sense UNLESS Garmin is using Australia as a big beat-site.
And to add further credence, on the Forum, ‘Garmin’ has announced that they are rolling out v.3.40 of the software.
CONCERNS: There is also a post, on the Forum, from what looks like a Garmin ‘insider’ that speculates that the delay may be due to the US-China trade war and tensions. They are not sure, but there is a concern. YIKES! Not good. This could hit all of us hard.
At this rate it is going to be touch and go whether the VENU will be available for Black Friday. Maybe that is not a bad thing. You don’t really want it discounted that soon.
In terms of the availability being stuck at ‘5 to 8 weeks’, it reminds me of the infamous Vivoactive 3 roll-out exactly 2-years ago. Same scenario. Makes me nervous because I had a lot of bad luck with the Vivoactive 3.
ISSUE: Because AMOLED displays can be a drag on the battery there is a ‘low-power’ ‘always-on’ display ‘mode’ (which just shows the time) on the VENU. The ‘Fitbit Versa 2‘ has that too. Appears, however, that this always-on mode has issues. Only a few watch faces support it. ‘Crystal’, which I tried on my Garmin MARQ, being one of them. But, I also see that ‘Crystal’ and a few other watch faces are now claiming that they are permanently ON, impacting battery life, even IF they are not your chosen watch face! Yikes. That is bad. I didn’t install ‘Crystal’ on my Fenix 6 because of this.
CONCERN: Will more and more watch faces end up being permanently on because they want to support the VENU always-on display mode? That would be a shame.
ISSUE: I am seeing, on the Forum, sensor (e.g., barometer) and software bug issues very similar to what I saw with the initial roll-out of the Vivoactive 3. That worries me. Yes, the VENU, theoretically, is still in beta-test phase. So, maybe they will iron out these issues. But, I doubt whether they will opt for new sensors this late in the game.
CONCERN: I had two Vivoactive 3s die on me. I just don’t want to go through that with the VENU.
So, those are my issues & concerns.
The MARQ saga is getting crazier and more exasperating by the day. Today’s story, from Garmin, is that the MARQ series will not be available from traditional sport stores in the U.S. — only speciality jewelry stores. This is crazy.
HRM USA, from whom I prefer to get my smartwatches, because of their 45-day returns, VIP UPGRADE club and exemplary support, cannot order MARQs from Garmin. This is not funny. I ‘spoke’ with HRM USA about this — today. They are, of course, not happy about this either.
I hear that the MARQ was listed, albeit briefly, on the Macy’s Website and possibly even Nordstrom.
April 15, 2019.
The newly announced Garmin Forerunner 945 is also NOT currently available from Garmin or Amazon. But, a few LUCKY folks got units from the likes of HRM USA. Also appears that it is more readily available in Europe and in the U.S.A.
I don’t like it. Indicates that they are having production issues and that never bodes well.
The New Garmin Forerunner 945 Is NOT As Yet Listed On Amazon.com, Not Available At Garmin & HRM USA Is Out Of Stock.
I had heard a rumor that HRM USA was expecting a few units in on Tuesday, April 30, 2019. There are also three people, on the Garmin Forums, claiming that they are getting Forerunner 945s from HRM USA between Wednesday and Friday of this week. This is not atypical. They also got Garmin Vivoactive 3 units ahead of anybody else.
HRM USA is currently out of stock. So …
‘Amazfit’, Gaining Publicity, Can Be 2019’s ‘Fitbit’, With Its ‘Verge’ & ‘Stratos’, IF It Plays Its Cards Right!

I started taking notice of them 2-weeks ago.
I am hearing and seeing good things about them.
I am trying to get my hands on the new — delayed — Verge. I have a feeling that I am going to be impressed.
Just wanted to give YOU a heads up.
The name to watch in 2019.
‘Amazfit’, Inexplicably, Manages Not To Have Their New ‘Verge’ Available On Amazon For Christmas 2018.

The ‘Amazfit Stratos‘ that I talked about on December 4, 2018, looked impressive. The ‘Verge‘, announced in the U.S. just a couple of days later looked even better. It is supposed to be the next generation. It was originally going to be available, in the US, on December 17. That would have been great timing. A week ahead of Christmas.
Would appear they screwed up — and did so badly. It has already been discounted. It is $159.99 at the Amazfit Website. But, I don’t see any promises about when it will arrive in your hands. Shame.
By next Christmas there will be other watches.
As I have maintained, from the start, I do NOT plan to get a Z6 in 2018. I don’t want one of the very first units. Just have a feeling that there might be some teething issues.
Going to wait for the holiday rush to be over … and then check the Forums and read the reviews.
If everything looks good come January 1, 2019, I will order one then. I am in no hurry. My Sony a7 II is still good … though I am RAPIDLY approaching 30,000 pictures with it. Yes, 30,000 pictures. That is a lot of pictures. Here is a way to visualize what 30,000 pictures mean. IF I took 10 pictures a day, it would take 8.2 YEARS to take 30,000 pictures.
