‘Canon EOS RP’ Kit/Bundle I Got From ‘Cardinal Camera’ Via Amazon.

I agnozied about getting a bundle.

In the end I got it ONLY because it was from Cardinal Camera and I have bought cameras and bundles, with success, from them in the past.

All I wanted was the: camera, 24-105mm f/4 L ISM USM lens, the grip and the adapter. The bundle was STILL CHEAPER than these 4 items together and this was the ONLY WAY I could get all 4 as a kit/bundle.

The rest was FLUFF. I relented and kept the 128GB SD card. It is a Class I. I shoot Class 3.

I haven’t tried the flash or the spare battery. It charged, but I haven’t put it in the camera.

I gave most it to the 18-year old daughter who has my old Canon T3i.

I am fussy about what I use with my camera.

The 4 items I needed. The rest was FREE and fluff.

The whole bundle. Impressive.

The Canon EOS RP body.

With the grip attached.

Comes with NO instructions. The original door has to be removed. I had to work it out. You can see it in front.

The grip definitely helps. Too small without it. Should be STANDARD.

The MOST important bits. My wrist straps. I do NOT use a neck strap. Getting these on was the hardest part.

With the ‘Expert Shield’ screen protector. Worked like a CHARM the second time around. No wonder they send you TWO.

With the Canon RF 24 – 105mm f/4 L IS USM lens attached.

New Hampshire ‘Interest and Dividends Tax’ (I&D) — Easiest Way To Calculate Is To Use e-file NH.

by Anura Guruge

nhintdivonline11

Click image to access the relevant NH State e-file option.

logo-efileI saw this morning, on this blogs ‘search strings’, that somebody wanted to know how to calculate New Hampshire ‘Interest and Dividends Tax‘ (I&D).

IF you, like I, are one of the ‘chosen’ that have to pay this tax it is rather easy to calculate. 5% of ALL interest and dividends declared on your IRS 1040 after a $4,800 exemptions for marrieds or $2,400 for singles. There are other exceptions too if you are disabled, blind etc.

But the quickest and easiest way to do is to use the FREE New Hampshire e-file option available from the N.H. State, i.e., nh.gov, Website. Go to RESIDENTS >> >> TAXES >> >> INTEREST & DIVIDENDS TAX. Click on ‘tax’ and look for the e-file logo (as shown here).

Just bang in your social, give them your e-mail, create a 4-digit PIN and Bob is your uncle. You are ready to rock and rumble. Very easy to use. Does the calculations for you and it is e-file. One-stop shopping. I have successfully used NH e-file for years. On Tuesday I breezed through with my 2015 filing in less than 3 minutes. Start to finish. Done. Getting a refund!

So go for it. Don’t even THINK of anything else. SMILE.

Healthcare.gov (Obamacare/ACA): Kudos Upon Kudos For The Amazing Call Center Reps.

As with most things in my life, of late, my fervent hope that I would be able go through this year WITHOUT having to deal with the dreaded healthcare.gov came to naught. My plan to rely on the automatic re-enrollment, even IF it cost me more, just to avoid the aggravation of dealing with healthcare.gov unravelled, in a hurry, when I found out that I had no choice but to put the two kids on my insurance.

So with utmost trepidation I logged onto healthcare.gov. The system was all primed to handle my re-enrollment.

To be fair the system is at least 1,000 times better than it was in 2012 — and quite a bit better than it was last year.

It is actually getting pretty slick!

95% of the data was preloaded and updating it was a snap. Yes, there is still some infuriating ‘questions loops’ you have to answer BUT it is not too bad.

After saying all of that, in the end, it still SCREWED UP BIG TIME. It ended up saying that my eligibility was different to that of the kids, both minors — and here is the real kicker, they claimed I had ‘better’ eligibility than the kids! That obviously is wrong.

obamacare2016So I had to call the Call Center. 15 minute wait.

Then I got ‘Wendy’ (and I think as with most call centers they use arbitrary aliases).

The healthcare.gov Call Center Reps., from the getgo in 2012, have been SUPERB. Outstanding. Brilliant. Exemplary.

Wendy was magical. She is a genuine veteran. She has been there since the very start in 2012. She knew her marbles.

As soon as I started explaining the problem — and I did NOT have to finish — she knew what had to be fixed.

She fixed it. That is something very nice about the system: the reps can go in there and change values, on your application, without you having to do it.

I then begged her to stay on the line till I enrolled. She did. They really are trained to spend as much time the caller wants. Amazing.

Yes, I could have done the rest on my own BUT it was so much quicker and easier with Wendy.

She advised me to get a ‘Silver’ plan rather than ‘Bronze’. And to be FAIR I no longer care about the cost! ‘They’, THE GOVERNMENT, is going to tax me one way or the other. So might as well get a Silver Plan and pay less taxes rather than get a Bronze and pay more taxes.

Yes, the system, still has problems with document submission. Though I uploaded the documents I am not taking any chances. I am mailing them in too — today.

So that is my healthcare.gov story for 2015.

Healthcare.gov (Obamacare/ACA) Does Have An Automatic Re-Enrollment & That Is What I Am Doing.

Starting in October I started getting letters and ‘packets’ from my current health insurance provider, Anthem, saying that I could be — and would be — automatically re-enrolled in the same plan as I now have IF I opt not to login to (bloody) healtcare.gov and chose another plan.

I thought they were joking. I was sure that it would not be that easy.

Last week I got another letter, from Anthem, stating what my revised new premium would be, as of January 2016, IF I stayed on the current plan and opted to re-enroll.

It was still up 19%.

But I am going to take it. I really can’t stomach the aggravation of dealing, yet again, with healthcare.gov.

As I found out this year, to my COST, it doesn’t really matter what you do on healthcare.gov. The day of reckoning is when you do your Federal taxes! So why bother. Just pay what you have to pay and then be PREPARED to pay MORE as a tax penalty in April. So screw it. I am NOT going to bother messing around with healtcare.gov. That alone would be good for my health.

So a heads up. Public Service Announcement. IF you have health insurance this year, i.e., 2015, you can keep that for 2016 — most likely with a higher premium — without bothering with healthcare.gov.

Sling TV (Post HBO On April 10, 2015): Best To Sign-Off, Uninstall & Then Re-Install APP On Roku.

960x540Sling TV (née DishWorld) had a lot of server-related problems the weekend of April 11-12, 2015 — this coinciding with when it added HBO to its offerings. Just ahead of the weekend they did release a new Sling TV App — also on Roku. It is NOT clear whether Roku automatically updated the APP.

Sling support recommends that you manually install the NEW APP — after signing-off from the old and then having Roku uninstall it. Today, I did it. Not sure whether it helped much. I can get to Sling today, which is more than what I could do yesterday. Not amused.

Amazing the contrast with ESPN. I am getting increasingly impressed with ESPN. They are beginning to rock. Sling, on the the other hand, has got off to a rocky start. Hope this helps.

Kindle eBooks: Heads Up, Automatic Book Update Notifications & Downloads Not Working.

Given my propensity for typos I update all my books (e- & print) quite frequently. Being able to update freely is one of the big draws of eBooks.

Given that I have updated all my comet books in the last week, I noticed that I had not received any e-mails notifying me of the updates! Just to make sure that the books looks halfway decent on mobile device I always buy a copy of the book and have it downloaded into one of our Google Nexus 7 (Android) Pads. This way I get to see what customers get to see.

So I contacted Kindle support last night. They know me. We ‘chat’ often. They responded this morning. Yes, they are having issues BUT are working on fixing them — though they don’t have a timescale.

They are willing to manually e-mail all those that have bought my ebooks! That is pretty impressive — though in my case we are not talking thousands of sales.

So just a heads up since this is a topic that is not adequately covered on the Web. Thanks.
