I Created ‘Boxing Day’ & ‘Christmas’ Challenge Badges For My ‘Mates’ At ‘Garmin’ Since Some Were Having Withdrawal.

— where I lurk about, more than I should.

Garmin is supposed to automatically provide such ‘challenge’ badges for going out and doing some activity on a holiday. People are accustomed to it and look forward to earning them. So, for example, they did one for ‘Thanksgiving‘.

Well, it appears, that Garmin forgot to do one for Christmas 2019. Wow. So many folks were bummed. Beside themselves. So, I created one for them and told them that only those that were on Santa’s GOOD LIST (as I was) could get the badge. Folks appreciated my efforts.

Well, quite a few Garmin users are from the GREAT British Commonwealth. So, I made them a ‘Boxing Day‘ badge as well.

We had fun.

Enjoy. Happy Boxing Day.

I am off to watch the highlights of TWO Boxing Day Test matches. Lucky I.

The Data You Get With A ‘Polar Vantage V’ On The Watch — Following An Activity.

by Anura Guruge

I did my first activity, a run, with my new Polar Vantage V on Sunday morning — November 4, 2018.

It was one of my standard 3.5 mile runs, up a hill. I did take both my dogs with me which slows me down because they have to stop every few seconds! Honest.

At the end of the run all of these data screens were available by pushing the “OK” button and then scrolling through using the DOWN button. Pretty impressive. Overkill for I.

Just wanted to share them with you since this is still a new watch — that just became available last week.

GPS accuracy seems OK. The 3.5 miles was what I have got with my other watches. Heart rate also seems to be consistent with my expectations.

Bulova GRAMMY Edition Watches A Tad Too ‘Clunky’ For My Taste — I Still Prefer The Timeless CURV.

by Anura Guruge

I still get an occasional e-mail from Bulova because I once considered getting a CURV to replace my 26-old Rolex I gave to my son.

But, that was before I got the Fitness Tracker bug and strapped a Garmin (Vivoactive HR then and now a Vivoactive 3) to my wrist — last June. Now the only fancy watch I will consider is the Samsung S3 Frontier that I did treat myself to at Christmas.

Bulova does makes nice watches and they are GOOD VALUE for money.

With GRAMMY Edition they are, of course, trying to make a statement — and if you like bold, brassy watches then one of these will work great for you. Just not my cup of tea.

I Wore My Samsung S3 Frontier For The First Time Yesterday.

by Anura Guruge

This was a kind of combined delayed birthday/Christmas present along with the Google Pixel 2 phone.

After the trouble I have had with my Garmin Vivoactive 3, I did not want to again be without an Activity Tracker on my wrist. Plus, the Samsung S3 Frontier really does double-up as a pretty decent dress watch. And that was how I used to it … when we went to Concord, NH, among other things to see the movie “The Greatest Showman“.

The Samsung S3 Frontier looks good. Wasn’t that heavy. I love the display. Great in a theater. Easy to read in the dark. I loved it.

It is not as comprehensive on the activity/fitness features as is my Vivoactive 3 — and it is NOT meant to be. Heart Rate monitoring is not constant — but more on demand. But, when I go out I would rather the have the S3 Frontier on my wrist than the Garmin.

I have found an APP that will let me combine the daily data from both. I have yet to try it.

I will keep you posted.
