TDS Internet Speeds WAY, WAY Down In New Hampshire — Struggling To Deliver 2.5Mbps!

by Anura Guruge

Started happening Friday night, i.e., December 11, 2020.

At one stage, around 8pm, we couldn’t even get 1Mbps on a WIRED PC — when we pay for the 1Gig service. Yes, we have the 1Gig service, & I am getting, when I am lucky, 2.5Mbps! That is insane.

What is worse is that I can’t get TDS to look into it.

It has been over 24-hours & they are NOT responding.

So, I am giving you a heads up.

You might want to check your download speed IF you have TDS. You will have Internet, BUT it could be very slow.

I am impressed and happy.

I have been a TDS customer for over 11-years and these days we have a rather extensive TDS presence in the house with: 1 Gig Internet, TDS TV and the latest TDS MESH Wi-Fi.

Yes, I have a fairly HEFTY TDS bill. SMILE.

TDS and I have had our moments. But, they impress me quite often. This is another instance.

I am proud of them and GLAD to be a TDS customer.

Good for YOU, TDS.

Keep it up.

I will NOT call up and complain about my bill for the next two-months. SMILE.

We got Wi-Fi with TDS, in October 2019, as part of our 1 Gig upgrade. They installed a Wi-Fi range extender in addition to the standard router. With 1 Gog to the house we had decent Wi-Fi in the house — though this is a 4-storey house of around 3,400 sq. ft.

I never had any issues with this TDS provided Wi-Fi, though I don’t use Wi-Fi that much since my PCs are hardwired to the Extender.

Wife and daughter, who are exclusively on Wi-Fi, have complained, more of less from day one, that they keep on getting Internet drops. They kept on complaining. Last week I had enough. I called up TDS. I had no idea that they had a new MESH network-based offering. I was willing to give it a try.

This afternoon two technicians came and set it all up. It took longer than it should have because we have TDS TV, and that means the old router still has to be there. The main issue, however, was to get some port forwarding back in place.

But, we got it up. We have Wi-Fi. We get decent bandwidth. Not sure if we get more than we did before.

Early days. The question is whether this Mesh network will prevent those connection drops.

We will wait and see. I will keep you posted.

But, for now, as of today, we have the Eero-based Wi-Fi+ Mesh Network from TDS.

We have one ‘Eero Pro‘, i.e.,the router/broadcaster, and two ‘Eero Beacons‘, i.e., the range extender

I Suspect That TDS Telecom Is Ramping Up To Offer 1.5 Gigabit Service In New Hampshire.

by Anura Guruge

My reading, first thing, this morning.

Yes, I am paying for the 1G service and have been doing so since November 2019.

Yes, I have had 1+ Gig readings before.

But, of late I am seeing increased bandwidth on a consistent basis.

I could be wrong, but I suspect that TDS Telecom is getting ready to offer something higher than 1G.

Will I get it? Most likely. SMILE.

I strongly believe that you can never be too poor, too fat or have too much bandwidth to your house. Don’t you agree?

First Thing I Saw On My PC Today — And It Made Me Smile.

by Anura Guruge

I got this, this afternoon at 3:17pm on Fast.com. It was Sunday and the Internet, by its standards, was not as busy as on a weekday.

Made me SMILE.

I am COOL.

TDS must be at least trying to deliver 1 Gig to the house. This is not bad. Given the overheads involved, this is as close to 1G that one should reasonably expect to see on Fast.com.

Finally Got ‘TDS TV’ And I Am Impressed & Pleasantly Pleased. Whoa!

by Anura Guruge

I resisted ‘TDS TV‘ and TDS 1 Gig Internet for nearly 2-years. Just wasn’t sure whether it would meet some stringent requirement for good, HD quality TV. Finally, last weekend I decided to take the plunge because I really do need to upgrade and rationalize my ‘networks’ — and yes, I do have two: one from TDS and the other from Atlantic Broadband.

I will, within the month, be upgrading to TDS 1 Gig Internet. But, before I did that I wanted to see how TDS TV performed.

I am IMPRESSED and VERY PLEASED.

The HD quality is outstanding. Haven’t noticed any delay or jitter as yet.

The 300Mbps Internet service seems SOLID. I am delighted.

They insist on using an ActionTech Wi-Fi router and the one they installed today wasn’t bad at all. Actually pretty damn good. Good signal strength.

The two technicians that came to do the install, Michael V. and Micale V. (not related), were impeccable.

Overall a GREAT experience. I was over the moon.

My Atlantic Broadband 1 Gig is still not perfect, BUT this TDS install made up for it.

I will keep you posted.

But, right now, two thumbs up for TDS TV.

TDS 1 Gig Internet (TDS TV) Will Not Be Available In SW Alton Till December 2016 (If That).

by Anura Guruge

tdsaltondec2016

Knowing TDS as well as I do (having been a loyal customer for 9 years), I reckon that ‘estimated December 2016‘ will really translate to early 2017.

No big deal. I am not banking on TDS.

My Metrocast 110 Mbps service is fine. I am not even sure I will upgrade! By January 2017, Metrocast, as they did in 2016, will probably give us another speed boost.

So this is just a heads up.

Metrocast Boldly Responds To TDS By Boosting Central New Hampshire Internet Speeds To 105 Mbps.

by Anura Guruge

YES, YES, YES.

Thank YOU, Thank YOU, Thank YOU.

105 Mbps from MetroCast next week better
than TDS’ empty promises of 1 Gig down the line.

Yes. Yes. Yes.

Even better it looks like an AUTOMATIC upgrade
and at the SAME price.

Good deal. I knew Metrocast would react to TDS’ claims.

I saw them upgrading equipment, up the poles, last week.
So I knew something was coming down the pike.

Thank YOU, Metrocast.

Here is the e-mail I received today.

I was a bit confused because it was from ‘Harron.com’.
Forgotten they now own Metrocast. I checked the Metrocast Website.
All kosher. See below.
