When A Tree Decides It Wants Antlers.

by Anura Guruge

You have to admit that they really do look like stag antlers. I saw this tree, on Friday, in Alton. I have walked by this tree many times BUT had never noticed this configuration. I just wanted to share it with you. Enjoy.

Newfie “Rowen’s” Very First Encounter With An Unfrozen Stream — Cute.

by Anura Guruge

It was cute. Temperatures here have only gone above freezing (& even then just during sunlight hours) in the last couple of days. So, everything has been frozen solids — & the lakes are still frozen. This stream, across a little-used hiking trail that I often frequent, just broke free from the grips of what was a hard & harsh winter. You can still see the ice in protected ‘coves’. Well, it was all knew to Rowen, who was born in Iowa, on November 30, 2020. He is indeed a snow puppy.

She walked into the water without any fuss. She is familiar with water. She has had enough baths & loves playing in her water bowl. BUT she would NOT drink the water — though she, as is common with that breed, is always thirsty. She didn’t even sniff it. But, I am sure she will work it out in no time. Braxton, as is his wont, was lapping away. She paid no heed.

Two Hikers Die In ‘Acadia National Park’, March 19, 2021 — Falling 100′ From Icy ‘Dorr Mountain’.

Click image to access my 2019 post. This is the LAST death at Acadia that I was aware of. But, that means nothing.

I belong to a ‘Maine Hiking‘ group on Facebook & as such heard about this long before it got to the media. SHAME. Us year-around hikers can relate — THOUGH I, in my dotage, tend to stay clear of dangerous icy hikes, just restricting myself to less-risky tracks. SMILE.

Shame.

I have never done Dorr — named after George B. Dorr, the so called ‘Father of Acadia National Park‘.

I used to TRY to keep track of deaths at Acadia. But, I live too far away. So, I only get to hear the more ‘notorious’ ones — such as this. I think it averages out to about 5 a year, though the Park Service refuses to count any that happen outside the LEGAL borders of the park, e.g., drownings at sea EVEN if they fell from Park property.

Well, I just wanted to let you know. Hopefully all the ice & snow will be gone, from the main trails, by end of next week. So, be careful.

The Next Pope — Is Marc Ouellet Still A Viable Papabile?

by Anura Guruge

Link to the ‘Is Marc Ouellet Still A Viable Papabile?’ post.

I, per what I told you a few days ago, continue to make progress (albeit slow) on my NEW ‘The Next Pope‘ Website. Did a significant post today. IF you are into ‘next pope’ you really should read this — if not all the others.

Today, I also got around to successfully registering & verifying BOTH ‘nextpope.site‘ & ‘nextpope.org‘ with Google’s ever-so-important ‘Webmaster Tools’/’Search Console‘. So, the site will finally start to get noticed, in time, by Google.

For now I will keep on cross-referencing posts from that blog over here. But, that will not continue. So, please bookmark ‘nextpope.site‘ & try to visit it at least weekly. OK?

I have BOTH ‘nextpope.site‘ & ‘nextpope.org‘ pointing at it. I also own ‘nextpope.blog‘ but that is NOT linked to anything yet.

OK. Check it out. Thanks.
