Traveling Across 7-States, 1,250-Miles, To Pick Up Puppy, During COVID-19, Is Challenging & Complicated.

by Anura Guruge

We take COVID & COVID precautions seriously. Three of us in this household are considered high risk — I due to my advance years. So, we don’t ‘mess around’ when it comes to COVID.

That said I am not used to having travel restrictions! I did do two road trips last year — & there were NO restrictions we encountered. So we were always in compliance.

NOT SO NOW! Yikes.

New York state & Pennsylvania have some pretty onerous restrictions — at least on paper. We have been told by hotels that we can ‘bypass’ them. We would NOT be in NY or PA for more than 24-hours. But, I have this thing about being LAW ABIDING — though, interestingly, most of the COVID restrictions are NOT laws per se.

I was going to take my 14-year old via Niagara Falls. It is one of the few places she really wants to visit. But, IF I were to comply with NY ‘rules’ it would be complicated. So, we are NOT going to mess around & VIOLATE any restrictions.

All the states allow you to DRIVE THROUGH as long as you only stop at rest stops … gas stations etc. — & are not in the state for more than 24-hours.

So, I am going to drive from NH to Ohio ‘non-stop’. 10-hour drive. I can do that. Once we get to OH we will be in compliance. So, that is good. Staying well within the restrictions.

Bit bummed about Niagara Falls. I have seen it over 30 times (minimum). C’est la vie.
