Another incomparably informative & beautiful consistory graphic by the remarkably talented & devout Br. César J. Tobón of Colombia who has provided us with a similar, and much appreciated, graphics ahead of other cardinal creating consistories and whenever there has been major changes to the Roman curia. His beautiful work is always a joy to behold and an honor to present.

The appearance of Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, who belongs to the Capuchin order and is the only non-bishop among the new cardinals, was quite unusual today – as can be seen here

In 1967 new clothing regulations for cardinals were issued and in this context it was stated that there will be no longer any differences in the clothing of ordinary clergy and members of religious orders.
A few days ago Fr. Cantalamessa stated that he had asked Pope Francis not to be ordained bishop and thus to remain a simple member of his order.
He is NOT the 1st non-bishop to be created a cardinal & continue as cardinal without consecration. I used to maintain a list. Plus, we had that Indian cardinal in a funny headdress. Baselios Mor Cleemis. But, THANKS. As you certainly know actually there are three cardinals who before created cardinals were not consecrated bishops – these are Albert Vanhoye from Belgium, Ernest Simoni from Albania and now the Italian Raniero Cantalamessa.
Concerning Cantalamessa´s clothing I was pleasantly surprised that refusing to wear the red cassock he followed to a certain extent the cardinals “old” dress code which may be interpreted as sign of his individualism.
I have this list which I STOPPED in 2010.
To add the following cardinals
Karl Josef Becker created Feb 18, 2012
Ernesto Simoni created Nov 19, 2016
Raniero Cantalamessa Nov 28, 2020
Thank YOU.
