As a (full (with right-of-residency)) British citizen, of long standing, & one heck of a British Patriot, I feel quite strongly about who should & should not be getting British citizenship — as the above post will amply testify.
I strongly believe that, as it was in the 1950s, 1960s & 1970s, those from the British Commonwealth — as I was — should be given priority & precedence when it comes to being granted British citizenship.
From that standpoint, I empathize with my (semi-)Brits in Hong Kong. I would like you to get citizenship & have the option of fleeing Hong Kong.
I like Hong Kong. I have visited twice. I like the Chinese — and of that there can never be any doubt or debate.
I am TORN.
Hong Kong was NEVER a British Commonwealth nation. Yes, I know that that wasn’t their fault per se. So, technically, they don’t meet my #1 criteria. I can overlook that. Bit of a technicality. They were pseudo Commonwealth. I will acknowledge that.
But, here is my real concern & fear.
Hong Kong is NOT A TRUE cricket playing country!
There is more genuine cricket in Afghanistan than there is in Hong Kong!
I do NOT expect everyone applying for British citizenship to be a current — or former — cricket player. Heavens no. I am NOT that unreasonable.
But, I would like them to LIKE cricket!
I can even make an exception to that. I just expect them to come from a country where cricket is a major sport.
That is fair. Very fair.
Think about it.
As far as I am concerned cricket is what differentiates us (from the rest of the world) & also unites us.

Do NOT panic! This will not be a daily feature. More than likely this is the last. Yes, I will still do the daily 7 pictures, but not this ‘check out my new camera‘ post. SMILE.
It costs me about $325 & it takes pictures worthy of that price bracket.
Yes, I have NOT spent enough time with it. My fault. I will rectify that.
The user manual for this supposed ‘pocket’, compact ‘point-&-shoot’ weighs three times that of the camera!
Panasonic user manuals are dense & hard to read. Too much auxiliary ornamentation & redundant ‘do-hickeys‘. Very hard to plough through, Shame.
