As a senior curialist Luis Tagle he definitely was entitled to be a Cardinal Bishop. That he did NOT get the vacant Suburbicarian See was interesting. But, to be fair, Benjamino Stella (Italy), is more senior in terms of the curial dicastery he heads.
This is great for the Catholic Filipinos. They will be ecstatic. Good for them.
It still does NOT make him papabile. Not even close.
He now has 3 strikes against him:
- Way, way, way too YOUNG!
… - Too exotic, for current times. Church wants to re-trench, get back to its roots.
…. - Coming across TOO much as Francis’ MAN, and Francis is losing his popularity among prelates.
