I Am Truly Torn As To The ‘Proposal’ To Give 2.9 Million From Hong Kong U.K. Citizenship.

As a (full (with right-of-residency)) British citizen, of long standing, & one heck of a British Patriot, I feel quite strongly about who should & should not be getting British citizenship — as the above post will amply testify.

I strongly believe that, as it was in the 1950s, 1960s & 1970s, those from the British Commonwealth — as I was — should be given priority & precedence when it comes to being granted British citizenship.

From that standpoint, I empathize with my (semi-)Brits in Hong Kong. I would like you to get citizenship & have the option of fleeing Hong Kong.

I like Hong Kong. I have visited twice. I like the Chinese — and of that there can never be any doubt or debate.

But, …..

I am TORN.

Why?

Hong Kong was NEVER a British Commonwealth nation. Yes, I know that that wasn’t their fault per se. So, technically, they don’t meet my #1 criteria. I can overlook that. Bit of a technicality. They were pseudo Commonwealth. I will acknowledge that.

But, here is my real concern & fear.

Hong Kong is NOT A TRUE cricket playing country!

There is more genuine cricket in Afghanistan than there is in Hong Kong!

I do NOT expect everyone applying for British citizenship to be a current — or former — cricket player. Heavens no. I am NOT that unreasonable.

But, I would like them to LIKE cricket!

I can even make an exception to that. I just expect them to come from a country where cricket is a major sport.

That is fair. Very fair.

Think about it.

As far as I am concerned cricket is what differentiates us (from the rest of the world) & also unites us.

2nd Batch Of Pictures From My New Panasonic ZS80 — May 31, 2020.

Do NOT panic! This will not be a daily feature. More than likely this is the last. Yes, I will still do the daily 7 pictures, but not this ‘check out my new camera‘ post. SMILE.

So, what do I think of the Panasonic ZS80. Ambivalent. Cheapest camera I have owned in years — & it feels it. SMILE.

It costs me about $325 & it takes pictures worthy of that price bracket.

Yes, I have NOT spent enough time with it. My fault. I will rectify that.

The user manual for this supposed ‘pocket’, compact ‘point-&-shoot’ weighs three times that of the camera!

Panasonic user manuals are dense & hard to read. Too much auxiliary ornamentation & redundant ‘do-hickeys‘. Very hard to plough through, Shame.

Pearson’s Greenhouses (New Durham, NH) Open House — May 30, 2020.

These ‘interesting’, mainly plastic greenhouses are on an interestingly named dirt-road — viz. ‘Much A Doo‘ — about 4-miles from our house. Though I, on one of my daily walks, get within 1/2-mile of it, we don’t go by there often. Pity. It is quite scenic.

We went to the Open House — which I gather was advertised on Facebook.

What struck me was the amount of ENERGY required to run greenhouses up here in the Arctic Circle. Look at the pictures. Notice all the oil tanks & chimneys. I had fun taking pictures. Wanted to share them with you. Enjoy.

Once I sold my Canon EOS RP in April, I did say that I might get a Panasonic ZS200 as a replacement. Well, I did. But, I haven’t unboxed it yet!

Due to some intense ‘horse-trading’ involving trade-ins & a very unexpected Panasonic $200 rebate on the ZS200, I ended up getting BOTH a ZS200 & ZS80!

Why? ZS200 has the bigger sensor I seek & the ZS80 has a long-zoom I like. Different horses for different courses. Quality vs. reach.

I will use the ‘inexpensive’ (can be banged about) ZS80 on my travels & when I am hiking. With its zoom I will be able to capture the long-shots I so cherish.

The ZS200 will be for more REFINED work. Yes, it will go with me on my travels but I will not lug it around as much.

Anywho, these are my first pictures with the ZS80. As always, with a new camera, I started off in FULL-AUTO mode.

They are OK. I will work on them.

I got both cameras on Tuesday — 5-days ago! With the rush to publish the ‘comet book’ I didn’t get to the cameras till today. Yes, I had tow brand new cameras sitting in their boxes, untouched, for 5-days. That is my life.

Comet C/2020 F8 (SWAN): Very Low & Barely Naked-Eye In The Night Sky, In The U.S.

by Anura Guruge

So, this is where it was at 11pm tonight, i.e., Friday, May 29, 2020.

It brightness, in ‘absolute magnitude’, is DOWN to +6. That is NOT good. That is borderline naked-eye visible.

So, I am NOT expecting C/2020 F8 (SWAN), alas, to be a BIG hit. I, after the collapse of ‘ATLAS‘, was ultra-cautious. I did not want to build-up, false expectations.

But, I will keep you posted.

You might want to check out my new ‘Comets’ book — published yesterday!

COVID-19 In The U.S. — Asians (Atypically) Are Underporfing!

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE & scan here. From “The Boston Globe”.

I had also heard this anecdotally. It was definitely the case in New Hampshire too BUT we only have a ‘handful’ of Asians up here. It is way too cold for them.

So, what gives?

Yes, we visited Boston Chinatown on February 2, 2020, for Chinese New Year, & were concerned that we might have been too cavalier. Well, that was nearly 4-months ago. Much water has flown under the bridges in Boston.

What gives?

It started in China, as far as we know, & plenty of Chinese got it China — though I think they got their death rate under control (or lied about the numbers).

But, what about the U.S.?

Were the Asians TOO SCARED to go to hospital or get tested. Suffered/died at home (in shame)?

I might spent some time looking into this.
