An Inexcusably Callous & Unfortunate Incident With The New Hampshire Red Cross.

This is SPECIFIC to this 1 incident
with
New Hampshire Red Cross.

This does NOT apply to the Red Cross as a whole.


My wife is a Red Cross blood donor. During this COVID-19 pandemic she has been trying to do her bit by giving blood (as often as she can).

She had two appointments cancelled. We understand. In each case, however, she received an e-mail the day before telling her of the cancellation.

She was all excited when she got today’s appointment — though it was on a Saturday, in Wakefield. Wakefield is a 50-minute drive, one-way. But, she was fine with that.

She tends to have a low iron count, so she for the last week she was doing all these things the Red Cross tells her she should eat: like eating bowl fulls of Cheerios, taking more multivitamins, drinking even more water etc. etc.

She was checking her e-mails for cancellations. NOTHING.

She checked again this morning. NOTHING.

We left around noon for the 1pm appointment in Wakefield.

We get there. The parking lot is EMPTY. Nobody there.

She calls the Red Cross. It is 1pm. They CONFIRM she has a 1pm appointment in Wakefield.

The building we are at — standing outside — happens to also house the Wakefield Police. I tell my wife to talk to the police. They won’t let her come in. She has to talk through an intercom. They make some calls. They said that others had called too. They eventually tell her that it is CANCELLED. It is now 1:30pm.

She is very upset. She is close to tears. I am glad I went — and I did so hoping to walk around Lovell Lake while she gave blood.

She is very upset. (Did I already say that?)

We come home. We have wasted OVER 2 hours.

She calls the Red Cross again. She gets an Arizona call center.

They initially CONFIRM that she still has a 1pm appointment. It is now past 2pm. Then they check another system and says: “Ooops! Sorry. It was cancelled this morning!

She then gets the above cancellation e-mail. It is time-stamped 2:36pm — for what WAS a 1pm appointment.

NOT BLOODY GOOD.

Very inconsiderate.

Very incompetent.

Not impressed.

Not happy.

She is very upset. Ruined her whole day.

Yes, we understand that in the scheme of things, this is relatively minor.

But, it would have been so easy to avoid it.

At best they would have had 60 appointments — BUT, I doubt that. It was probably under 40.

If they sent that gentleman an e-mail at 9:33am they could have sent my wife one too in that time period.

Somebody at New Hampshire Red Cross should explain. Somebody at New Hampshire Red Cross should be …


And in case YOU are wondering why I do not donate blood.

They don’t WANT MY BLOOD. Not good enough. I used to give blood, here & in the U.K. And NO, I do NOT have ANY infections. My blood is GOOD. They just don’t want it.

Why?

Have a guess. It is because I am British. I kid you bloody NOT. Go check. They will not accept blood from anyone who has any connection with Britain.

Why?

Try and remember. Remember? Mad Bloody Cow!
