The Last Pope To Die Of The Flu Was …
Benedict XV was pope from
September 3, 1914 to January 22, 1922.
He was born November 21, 1854.
He was, thus, 67 when he died in 1922.
He didn’t catch the ‘flu‘ from an epidemic as such.
He caught a ‘cold’ after standing in the rain, in early January, waiting for his driver.
This cold progressed into a high fever and cough. It is believed to have turned into pneumonia.
He was ill for over two-weeks, the pneumonia not getting any better.
That is what he died of.
