I Busted My Knee, Severely, A Year Ago Today; Since Then I Have Walked 1,947-Miles & Lost Exactly 30 Lbs.
Thursday, February 28, 2019. I slipped on ice, in the morning, while shoveling snow after a snowstorm. Heard an almighty crack. Left knee was in pain and pretty useless. Did not know what had happened. Eventually got myself to the ER. I had totally busted my Quadricep Tendon. Never heard of it. Didn’t know I had one.
They were all set to operate on me the next day. I was not keen. I had a vacation booked in the Cape and, moreover, wanted some time to get my head around surgery. ONE OF THE BEST DECISIONS I EVER MADE. With a brace, I could walk and the pain wasn’t too bad.
Pain was never too bad, prior to or post surgery. Never took any of the 60 opioid pills that I was given! Most I needed was TWO Aleve.
I walked, sometimes a mile or more, in the week prior to surgery.
Was on crutches for 6-weeks. I walked with the crutches and my Garmin Fenix 5 NEVER COUNTED those steps. So, I really walked MORE MILES! Smile.
I had my major knee surgery on March 7, 2019.
The busted knee was a wakeup call. Though I ran most days I had let my weight creep up to 176 lbs. Not good. My blood glucose had also gone up to 103. That was it. I was going to get myself fit. I went on a much stricter low-carb diet (than I had been for the last 6-years) the morning after surgery. Lost 30 lbs. Down to 146. Trying had to get to 142. That would be my lowest adult weight. But, stuck at 146 lbs. Help.
I used to ‘run’ 3.5 miles a day. Now I walk/run 7 miles a day and do 23-minutes on an exercise bike.
I had my quadriceps tendon repair surgery,
at ‘Frisbie Memorial Hospital‘ —
performed by Dr. Charles Blitzer
of ‘Seacoast Orthopedics‘
on Thursday, March 7, 2019.
There was no pain to talk about
— throughout, from surgery to now.
The Last Time ‘Leap Day’, i.e., February 29, Fell On A Saturday Was 1992; Last ‘Leap Day’ Was In 2016.
How exciting. Another ‘Leap Day‘. At best, if we are lucky, we get them every 4-years. But, as you can see above, they will not get a ‘Leap Day‘ in 2100. Some of YOU might be around for that. Not that far ahead.
Last ‘Leap Day’, obviously, was 4-years ago, to the DAY, in 2016.
Got to go back a fair ways to find when the last ‘Leap Day’ was on a Saturday. Wow. 1992. I remember 1992. My son was born in May of that year.
