Quite The Provocative Maine Vanity Plate — Do You Get It?

by Anura Guruge

Saw this last Saturday, at a school, in St. George, Maine (South of Rockland). Took me a second to work it out. Did you get it? The ‘BG’ is for BIG & the ‘FM’ stands for ‘Female’.

I was surprised. I would have thought that there were guidelines to prevent vanity plates like this.

In the same parking lot, and there was a basketball game in progress, I also saw these two, one another vanity plate and the other a bumper sticker.

I found the vanity plate amusing. You get that one right? Obviously a fella with major identity and security issues.

I Am Surprised At Chinese Reaction To ‘Coronavirus Chinese Flag’ Cartoon — Low Humor Quotient.

I am NOT going to show the cartoon flag that cause such offense because I have a number of good Chinese friends and I do NOT want to offend them. But, the above cited article does show it. So, if you are curious use the link.

While I will readily confess that I have an irreverent sense of humor I did NOT see anything offensive in the cartoon. I thought it was clever, cute & funny. But, then again I am not that affected by the virus.

But, this got me thinking. Do the Chinese, in general, have a good sense of humor? And you know, I do NOT know the answer to that. The Chinese that I interact with are all very polite, cordial, hospitable and nice. But, I can’t say that I have ever seen them laugh. Yes, I have seen all the clips online of Chinese playing practical jokes — but that is all kids and it all, from what I recall, involves causing someone else some grief.

So, this begs the question. Do the Chinese have a sense of humor?

I do not know, but I will try to investigate.

I Watched & Celebrated Brexit, LIVE, On Sky News, With My Likeminded Compatriots.

Though a reluctant ex-pat (for way too many decades) Brexit is dear to I. I never wanted my GREAT Britain (in which I had lived very contentedly since 1969) to join the E.U. As I explained in my earlier post of today, I wanted GREAT Britain to put MY COMMONWEALTH first and foremost. Commonwealth first. All other countries well below those of the Commonwealth. That is how it used to be. I am the proud & patriotic product of the British Commonwealth. I will not betray my roots and values.

I wanted to mark the occasion.

6pm Eastern was perfect. I was in front of our big TV at 5:58pm to celebrate. Made sure Teischan was with I. She understands Brexit. It was good.

I am GLAD. A relief.

But, I fully appreciate that the heavy lifting starts as of now.

WE The British Are FREE Again; ‘Brexit’ Has Finally Come — British INDEPENDENCE Day, 01/31/2020.

Unlike many I am NOT a new Brexiter. I was always against MY beloved GREAT Britain joining the E.U. I wanted ‘Brexit‘ way back 44-years AGO in 1975. Yes, 1975 — 44-years ago. I proudly voted ‘NO’ in that 1st ‘Brexit’ referendum in 1975. I was among the 20% who wanted to leave at that juncture. But, WE, obviously, were RIGHT. It took the others 40-years to realize what we already knew.

I, for very obvious reasons, is a ‘Commonwealthist’. I want union, I want trade deals, I want mutual aid, I want ‘open’ borders — BUT with OUR GLORIOUS and proud British Commonwealth, first & foremost. Unlike, say Poland, we never, especially in 1973, needed a new trading block. We had the Commonwealth. We still do.

So, that has always been my primary rationale. British Commonwealth, first & foremost WITH GREAT BRITAIN always at the top. Never, first among equals.

Brexit is a good thing. Yes, I appreciate that we now have many hurdles ahead of us. That does scare I. I do NOT want GREAT Britain broken up! I want us united and standing firm with OUR Commonwealth.

I like open-borders BUT do NOT agree that being part of the EU is good for my Britain. I would rather have controlled immigration from Africa than from Ukraine. All immigrants to Britain must understand how to play cricket! That should be the criteria.

Boris Johnson is going to be GOOD FOR I. The UK Sterling Pound will be stronger which means that the two pensions I get from the UK will be slightly higher. It is not much so the increase will be marginal. But, better than a kick in the teeth. Boris will also be good for the stock market.

But, Boris scares I. So, I will have to keep an eye on him. Let’s start with Brexit. Lets see if he can make it happen.

Fingers crossed.

For NOW I am happy.
