A Delightful 4-Mile Hike Around Frozen Halfmoon Lake In In Central New Hampshire.

Note that I said I walked around it, and not across it. This is our lake (i.e., we have beach rights to it and we live about 0.5-mile from it) BUT I had not ventured out on it so far this year.

At our end, as image two (above) shows it was virgin snow. Those are my boot-prints and paw prints of my dogs.

Over the 27-years I have lived by (or on) lakes up here I have fallen through the ice five times. Not in any hurry to add to that — especially in my old age.

Typically I wait for and follow well compacted snowmobile tracks. That way I can be sure that ice is thick enough. Today, I had no clue and this is still early days and we have had some unusually warm days. So, I (for a change (befitting my increased age)) played it safe. Stayed close to the shore, but as the GPS track shows I did venture out in certain spots. Once, when I was further out than I planned I heard the ice crack TWICE. Not funny.

But, it was a wondrous walk. I don’t know this lake as well as I should because we have never been out in it by boat. I swim, go out on it in my iSUP or a pedal-boat. So, I haven’t been all the way around. This was good. I will be doing it again. SMILE. I will keep you posted.

How Was This Picture Taken — How Is It Possible?

This appeared in my Facebook timeline yesterday. I, being the photo-taker I am, immediately noticed that something was amiss. Yes, I know who it is, but that is not important.

Wow. Look at the SLOPE on the water — and even worse the citiscape behind him (and I think it is Dubai or Kuwait or somewhere in that area).

He is perfectly straight and the the retaining wall he is standing in front of his perfectly level.

Then how is the background so tilted? We are talking close to 30°.

I really don’t think it is PhotoShopped! If it is we have ‘problems’.

Well, this picture defeated I.

See what YOU can make of it.

Cheers.

My New ‘Google Pixel 4’ Now Has The Jan. 1, 2020 Update To Android 10.

by Anura Guruge

I had read, online, that the January 2020 update to Android 10 had just started, today, to be rolled out to Pixel 4s. Last month had to wait until nearly the 3rd week to get the December update. So, I was curious whether I could get the latest update right away.

I had to manually check for an update. At that juncture it went ahead and started the download. Only a 12MB download but with all the housekeeping it does it took about 20-minutes to download, optimize and install. Haven’t used the phone since. It rebooted OK. Looks OK, so far.

I will keep you posted with anything untoward crops up.
