Impressive. I am told the first statue to be installed in St. Peter’s Square in 400-years!

Extremely topical subject both in the U.S. and Europe. So, the timing is impeccable. The statue is by Canadian Timothy Schmalz and is called ‘Angels Unaware‘. He is best known for his ‘Homeless Jesus‘.

I like both statues, BUT I will confess that when I saw the pictures of ‘Angels Unaware’ I was immediately — and I mean like at once — reminded of one of my favorite sculptures, Rodin’sThe Burghers of Calais‘. Again a story of those forsaken. Yes, Rodin’s only has 6 people. It was just the overall look and theme.

One of favorites by Rodin, ‘The Burghers of Calais’ by at the Victoria Tower Gardens, London, England. Again there are copies including one at the New York Met.
