It was the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend. It was a picture perfect day in terms of New Hampshire weather. We wanted to do something ‘outside’ and the ‘Castle‘ came to mind. That we were going to dinner at Giuseppe’s in Meredith in the evening made it a ‘no brainer’. We could just do a loop of the Lake. And that is what we did.
Though we had free tickets for the ‘Castle‘ from ‘Volunteer Day‘ none of us wanted to tour the ‘Castle’ again. We have all visited it at least six times. So, we just wanted to enjoy the grounds. Found this hike. Nice and easy as hikes go and you can still visit the waterfall. So, great value. I enjoyed it. I had already walked/run 3 miles in the morning. So, I wasn’t too concerned that it was not overly long. Still ended up doing 20,000 steps for the day. I am cool with that.
This trail, as you can see from the maps, parallels the ‘paid entrance’ auto road for much of the way. You are not allowed to walk on the auto road — autos only. So, for folks like us who want to hike this is the way to do it. You can see the road from many places on the trail. You could cut across if you wanted. SMILE.
