Trying to decide on a decent Stand Up Paddle Boards to replace the two, old & very heavy rigid boards I sold last weekend has been fiendishly difficult. Much harder than choosing a camera and I agonize about which new camera to buy for months.
IF modular paddle boards were available it would be a cinch. I would get one without a minute’s hesitation. But, I just can’t source one.
I want a 11′ board. I am a reasonably proficient boarder. I don’t have tons of hours on a board, but, I am not a beginner either. I want a board that I can use both on lakes and in the ocean.
Transporting the board is the issue. It just won’t fit inside the vehicles we have. And I don’t fancy having a 11′ board strapped to the roof of our SUV on long trips.
So, it appears I must get an inflatable and ‘experts’ swear that good, new inflatables are nearly as rigid, when inflated to 15psi, as a epoxy board.
Now, I am torn between the Atoll and the iRocker. They both have their fans.
And, it gets worse. What color? Green or sand?
I will keep you posted. Wish me luck.

This is per my Garmin, which I wear 24×7.
There was no pain to talk about
— throughout, from surgery to now.
I live in a 4-storey house; my office is on the 4t floor, bedroom on the 3rd, kitchen on the 2nd and main/family TV on the 1st. So, I have to go between all 4-floors, multiple times a day, even when I was on crutches. Just for the record, my Garmin was pretty appalling at counting steps & floors when I was on crutches because I was not moving my arms enough to make the accelerometer register movement.
I live on the side of a 1,440′ mountain. I walk/run the road that goes up/down this mountain. So, anytime I am on that road, on foot, I cover a fair amount of elevation. Typically I have 300′ to 700′ of elevation gain a day when I go up and down this road. I love it.
I still haven’t started running. But, for the last 4 weeks I am making a concerted attempt to walk at least 10,000 steps a day. And it is working.
So, I am happy. I have LOST quite a bit of weight since my surgery! That was a bonus. Yes, I doubled, maybe even tripled, down on it. That has helped.
So, do NOT let knee surgery slow you down. SMILE.
Those of you who are even marginally familiar with this blog must realize that I usually have an opinion on most things — and often claim to be able to clearly appreciate both sides of a divisive argument. Not so, in the case of the former, when it comes to the Death Penalty.
It is kind of weird. The death penalty, one way or the other, moves me none. Just leaves me cold; inured. Maybe it is because I can’t really relate to it.
But, I do understand the emotions and logic from both sides. But, what is best for society? Is the death penalty a deterrent? I would guess statistics will show otherwise. All I know is that it is EXPENSIVE with all the appeals and pleas for pardon. It takes decades.
It is curious that WE with our famous ‘Live Free or Die‘ motto voted for this. So, what we are saying is that it is OK to languish in prison for life, rather than be put to death. That seems to be contrary to what the motto says on face value. SMILE.
