Use Firefox, Rather Than Google Chrome, To Read The U.K. “Daily Mail” On Android Devices.

by Anura Guruge

Trying to read the U.K. “Daily Mail“, my favorite newspaper for over 40-years, with Chrome, on my 10″ Android Tablet had become quite the chore. The latest HUGE banner, at the bottom, of the screen, was the last straw. It was like trying to read something through a slit.

I had enough.

Yes, I fully appreciate that it costs a lot of money to provide the level of news they do. But, they can’t be so obnoxious.

I tried an Ad Blocker. Didn’t do anything. Yes, I will confess that I refuse to use their APP and insist on reading it in a browser — in desktop-mode.

I am a Google shareholder and, as you know, I permit ads on this blog. But, I hope they are not obnoxious.

So, on a whim I went back to Firefox. I have no qualms about that. I was one of the original advocates of Firefox way back in the late 1990s. I convinced quite a few to switch to Firefox. And I have never had anything against Firefox. Just assumed that Google is ‘one-stop-shopping’. But, I was wrong.

I have only been using Firefox, with the Daily Mail, for a few minutes. Yes, you still get Ads — like the top banner. But, so far, I haven’t had as many pop-up ads. that were ruining my reading experience.

West Indies & England Cricket Teams Wearing Black Armbands To Honor Alzarri Joesph’s Mother.

by Anura Guruge

So for the second Test in a row the players are wearing black armbands. This time for poor, 22-year old Alzarri Joesph’s mother who died ahead of the 3rd day of the 2nd Test between the West Indies and England. I do not know the details. I assume she must have been ill. But, Alzarri did not, from what I saw, show any signs of distress the day before. He bowled quite. I like him. He has potential. This will be a setback. It is a great testament to his character that he continued to play. Him dropping out would have been a bitter blow to the West Indies. I am very proud of him ad this will be remembered for years to come. I wish him well.

After Super Bowl 53 Americans Lost All Rights To Ever Claim That Cricket Is Boring.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and read here. Google for plenty more.

WOW! Talk about flaccid.

I have watched about 60% of the 53 Super Bowls and I am quite confident that this, by a long chalk, was the most boring. It was painful. At the end I just wanted one team to get a lead so that it would not go into overtime.

This was bad. It did the sport untold harm. Cricket never gets that boring. Jeez. Yes, it was snooze-gate.

Google Doodle For Sri Lanka February 4, 2019 Independence Day — Recycled From Last Year.

by Anura Guruge

Permanent access, independent of date,
provided via the Google Doodle Archive.

Last Year’s

As with last year Google INCORRECTLY refers to it as
“Sri Lanka National Day”.

Nope. It is INDEPENDENCE DAY.

Though it is RECYCLED from last year, this will, nonetheless, make a LOT of people, like 14 million, very happy.

Having snubbed them in 2016 & 2014, Google has again honored Sri Lankan Independence Day, 2019 — 71th anniversary.

I, as the World knows, got the very 1st Google Doodle for Sri Lanka, for Independence Day, in 2013. So, I have connection …

For reasons that I cannot fathom, Google, as they also did (incorrectly) in 2015, again calls it “National Day“. NOT SO! Google should Google that. It is INDEPENDENCE DAY — 70-years.

My 2013 Google Doodle & the one in 2015.
