Overcoming My ‘Apple Watch 4’ ECG ENVY With $99 ‘Add On’ To My Garmin Fenix 5.

One of the articles I read about the ECG feature on the newly announced Apple Watch Series 4 mentioned this ‘Alivecor‘ device — BUT said it was only compatible with iPhones. I think they also alluded that Apple might have got their ECG technology from Alivecor.
So, this morning I did some digging around. The first thing I discovered, to my delight, was that it had some Android capability and listed the Google Pixel with Android 8. Well, I have a Google Pixel 2 with Android 9, but I knew that I was going to be OK. Well, the APP, ‘Kardia‘, downloaded and installed, no problem. I even have an account set up.
Well, $99 is a CHEAP price to pay for an ECG monitor, especially if you are labelled as ‘heart attack waiting to happen‘. The last time I was taken to ER with a suspected heart attack, I ended up coughing up around $600 and all that was wrong with me was but a broken rib above my heart from falling on my shovel while shoveling snow — and that had been 2 weeks previously. Waste of money. Well, when I started to order it, Amazon told me I had $64.76 in AMAZON REWARD POINTS and $18.65 on a Gift Card (most likely because I had complained about anorder that got screwed up). It was going to cost me a GRAND TOTAL of $15.59.
$15.59 to overcome my Apple Watch 4 Envy — and I didn’t have to get an iPhone. Too good to be true.
I should have it Saturday. It should be interesting. Actually, I am DREADING it. My heart is pretty dicky. So, this thing can force me to start seeing a cardiologist on a daily basis. Hhhhmmm.
I will, of course, tell you what I think and find. Keep your fingers crossed for I. Thanks.
P.S. — I know that it STRICTLY is NOT an ‘Add On’ to my Garmin Fenix 5. But, now I don’t have to get rid of my Fenix 5.

Both from MarketWatch, of course.
Fitbit took a 6% hit when the Apple Watch 4 — with its AMAZING, game changing ECG feature — was announced, and Garmin stayed flat (if not gained a fraction).
What gives.
Aaahhhh! THE magic dividend. Apple, with its timing, did Garmin a huge favor.
Nobody was going to dump GRMN on when there was a 53 cent dividend baked into the price. But, that will change post September 13, 2018 — the ex-dividend date. The price will drop.
Garmin is NOT as much of a direct competitor as Fitbit, but the new Apple Watch makes Garmin’s high-end Fenix 5 and Fenix 5 Plus look pedestrian and lackluster.
Interesting times. Yes, I own GRMN — but I also own AAPL. {Smile}. I owned AAPL from 2007 to 2017 and then sold most of it since I had enough. {Smile}

I am in shock and awe. Wow. Wow. WOW!
An EKG (or ECG) on my wrist that I can take. Wow. Wow. WOW!
I, alas, given my dicky heart, have had more EKGs than most. Now, I could get a first read before they tell me the bad news.
THIS IS HUGE.
I am at a loss. My Garmin Fenix 5, nor the new Garmin Fenix 5 Plus, are even in the same ballpark! Check the specs. The Apple Watch has the same sensors with better capability — even with GPS, GLONASS, Galileo etc.
Not sure how Garmin can or will respond.
THIS IS HUGE.
