Maybe I Am Doing Better Than I Realize.

by Anura Guruge

I saw this on Facebook this morning, in the ‘Garmin Connect Users‘ group that I belong to.

I was impressed. It said ‘OPTIMAL’.

I never check any of this ‘Performance’ or ‘Training’ stuff on my Garmin Fenix 5 because I assume I am a slug and all that it is going to show that is that I am old, feeble and a loser when it comes to health & fitness.

But, I was curious. I knew where to look. Just pressing a few buttons. This is what I GOT! Wow. I was impressed.

Close to TWICE his reading. His was in the green‘ ‘optimal’ zone. Mine was in the ‘RED’ ‘High’ zone. Wow. So, maybe I might be doing something right and might not be the total loser on the fitness front that I think of myself as being.

“Woman Walks Ahead” Movie (2017) — The New “Dances With Wolves”; (It Is That Good).

by Anura Guruge

The actual portrait of ‘Sitting Bull’ she painted.

The book. Click to ENLARGE.

Click to ENLARGE and read here. She, Caroline Weldon, was a real person, an actual painter. Movie is based on a TRUE story though the movie takes some poetic license. Wikipedia:

Dances with Wolves” is one of my favorite movies and one of the few that I have watched multiple times — once quite recently.

So, for me to equate this 2017 movie to that has to mean that it make quite the impression upon I — and it sure did. Powerful and poignant. Immaculately shot and produced. Palpable.

My weekly e-mail from Amazon on its recommended Prime Movies had it at #2. Caught my eye. When I read the description and it said ‘woman painter‘ and ‘Sitting Bull’ I was hooked. Art and native Indians — two topics dear to my heart. I was hoping to watch it with Teischan (12) but it had a ‘R’ rating. I can see why.

So, I watched it on my own. I was riveted. Great movie but an even greater story. Oh, WOW. Man’s inhumanity to man — especially the poor Indians.

Definite, definite ‘must watch’. You will thank me for it.

It will touch your very core.

Delusional Democrats Counting Their 2018 Midterm Wins Even Before The Eggs Are LAID!

by Anura Guruge

Click to access FULL ‘Politico’ post.

Click to access my post from a few days ago.

Why would the Democrats even mention this.

Winning the House is NOT a certainty. Don’t they, for Christ Sake, ever learn? Remember Donald Trump had NO PATH to 270.

This is ludicrous.

I do NOT think that there will be Blue Wave. If there is any wave at all, I think it will be RED. I don’t want that but I am being realistic. I got burned, and burned BADLY, in 2016. I am not going to get burned again in 2018.

Democrats should STOP counting their chicks even before the eggs are laid, never mind hatched.

No wonder the Republicans play them like idiots.

Teischan’s Latest Artwork — I Offered To Buy It For …

by Anura Guruge

She has been working on this for the last few days. She uses a ‘modern’ protractor to draw the circles. All the rest is freehand and her own design. She has been working on this for the last few days.

She is very SHY of her work. When she is finished she squirrels it away. She is not happy that I photograph her work but she knows that it is the price she has to pay for being my daughter. I have offered to buy this painting.

How much do you think it is worth?

I offered her $5. She wanted $10, then changed her mind and said $15. What would YOU pay, though she will not sell it to anybody but I and I dare not sell it!

Today Is ‘Michaelmas Day’ 2018 — Happy Michaelmas, Enjoy Your Goose.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and read here. Wikipedia:

Since I am not into angels this is really not my thing — though I am always happy to eat goose (even once, 40-years ago, in Thailand, eating swan thinking it was duck).

But, when I hear ‘Michaelmas’ it does bring back memories — now filtered by decades of time. As some of you know I had a very traditional British upbringing, including Public (i.e., Private, fee-paying) School and British Universities. At Mill Hill, in particular, ‘Michaelmas’ was always used to denote the Fall (i.e., Sept. to Dec.) term. I associate that with Rugby.

So, it crossed my mind that I should share with lovely, quite British tradition with some of you — as a de facto ambassador for the Brits.

If you are into Angels this is YOUR DAY.

Wonder whether geese know of angels
