I received a pseudonymously wriiten e-mail the other day asking me whether I was aware of this.
“Here’s one for you: During all of 1937 and 1938, eight current and future popes were living (Pius XI to Francis)“.
I was not aware per se, in that I had not bothered to count.
BUT, I do know that I have a magical Excel Spreadsheet with data on ALL the popes for whom we have a birthdate. That is basically all the popes since 1400. See below. So, it is easy enough for me to check — provided we are talking post 1400. Prior to that all bets are off.
7 “would be popes” alive is NOT even CLOSE to being a record. Without even trying, just taking a semi-intelligent guess, I found 11 … PLUS the living pope.
Over the next few days I will try to build upon this.

I like windows with character. I enjoy the shapes, colors, sizes, positionings & juxtapositionings … As I pointed out in this post I like shapes and patterns in general, and windows are a special class of such patterns.
Whenever I am in a city I like to let my eyes roam over the windows. Boston, like all of the older cities on the US Northeast, has a fascinating variety of windows, both old and new. Until I started taking this set of pictures I had never realized the similarity of some of the buildings to those in Amsterdam. I had noticed this in Philadelphia too.
This was our trip on Saturday, to celebrate the 2018 Chinese New Year with Dim Sum, at ‘China Pearl’, in Chinatown. After the Dim Sum Teischan wanted to explore Boston Common & Public Park. I took most of these pictures on that walk which was around 2.5 miles in total.

OK, I will admit — I am making a special attempt to climb more stairs! I now try to climb 5 – 10 EXTRA floors a day, on the trot, carrying some weights. Hence why my floor count has gone up. It is good exercise and I like climbing stairs.
