Garmin’s NEW Forerunner 645 — Ruggedized Vivoactive 3 Without Touch-Screen?

The Garmin Forerunner 645 announced on January 8, 2018. It is still NOT available and the Garmin Website is saying 5 – 8 weeks — which would realistically mean April 2018.

Yes, everybody else other than I is going ga-ga about its music capability. That interests me NOT.

What gets me REAL excited is that it is a Vivoactive 3+ — the only thing missing being a touch-screen.

Other than touch, it has WAY MORE features including a gyroscope. Plus nice size.

Yes, I know I returned a Forerunner 235 within 4 hours. But, the 235, for I, had a FATAL omission. No barometric altimeter to count stairs climbed. The 645 has that and much more.

Yes, VO2 Max.

Yes, alas, there is another negative. It does NOT come in black! YIKES. I might actually try and paint it BLACK. That is how desperate I am.

April availability is perfect. But, I will wait till early June for the 1st batch of watches to get sold.

My Fitbit Ionic Is Irritating The Skin On My Wrist.

by Anura Guruge

I noticed ‘it’ on Friday. I had been wearing it for 8 days — and never too tight.

Irritating my skin takes some doing. Rhinoceros hide feels supple and soft compared to my skin. I don’t get bit much by mosquitoes because they can’t penetrate my skin. So, I really am thick skinned.

I wore multiple Garmins on the same wrist for 7 months and never saw a reaction. Also do not have a problem with my Samsung S3 Frontier.

And NO, I have not changed soap and I do take off the watch and dry my wrist after I take a shower.

NOT a big deal. It doesn’t hurt and it only itches if I think about it. So, c’est la vie. The Fitbit Ionic and I are not meant for the longtime. My hope is to find a more rugged Garmin come April/May.

But, I will keep you posted.

Alton Bay “Airport On Ice” 2018 Ready To Roll — But Lacks Planes.

I had read, on Thursday, that the runway had been cleared of snow and that the 2018 ‘Airport on Ice‘, on Alton Bay, on Lake Winnipesaukee, NH, was ready for action.

Given that Saturday was warm (i.e., 40°F (4.4°C)) with nary a gust of wind I expected to see a stream of planes landing and taking off. Bit crushed that it was EMPTY when we swung by around 2pm. There might have been a few planes earlier. There were some tire tracks on the apron — where the planes park. But, it could have been a car.

Yes, I know that the ‘Festival’ per se is next weekend, but in prior years we have had planes before and after the festival.

I plan to swing by on Sunday too, but we are expecting a ton of rain — which would not be conducive to flying.
