This is the earliest, in the year, that I have gone skiing in over 20-years! My days of skiing in -20°F (-29°F) are long gone. I have become a warm-weather skier.
But, I lucked out today and it is NOT often that I enjoy good luck of late.
It was in the mid-40°s Fahrenheit — i.e., ~6° celsius. That is WARM for us.
We had a blast. You could, if you wanted, ski without gloves or a jacket. It was GREAT.
I had, in a fit of impetuousness, forgetting my advanced age and dubious health, volunteered to be a chaperone for Teischan’s ski program — knowing full well that it was all in January.
Lucked out. IF they had NOT cancelled last Thursday, I most likely would have died from the cold.
Today, was something else.
Plus, though there were number of school programs at Gunstock, it felt EMPTY. No lines.
We skied from top-to-bottom, i.e., from the Summit back to the Summit Chair Lift, four or five times and most of the time we had the slopes to ourselves. It was fun.
Since this is a school program, all the kids have to take a 1-hour lesson. This is Teischan messing around. She is a fairly proficient skier. She just does not want to show that to folks during her lessons.
