By our standards this was NOT an ‘ice storm‘ per se. From what I gather we need 0.25″ ice build-up on plants before it qualifies as such. On Saturday, December 23, 2017 — Eve of Christmas Eve — we only got about 0.20″ — and that 0.05″ does make a difference. That additional 0.05″ would have caused branches to break — and disrupt power lines. LUCKILY, that did NOT happen last night though the lights flickered four times. I was sure we would lose power … BUT we didn’t, and for that I am GRATEFUL.
But, judging from what I saw today, we will NOT be so lucky tomorrow, i.e., Christmas Day, when we get another 8″ of snow. Branches will snap under the weight and trees will fall. We will lose power. Went and got 10 gallons of gas for that.
For now, enjoy these pictures of ICE.
