Not as famous.

Most famous?

You can’t help but like the work of Henri-Émile-Benoît Matisse. There is a definite je ne sais quoi to it. I could never walk past a Matisse, even if it is a cheap print, without stopping to admire the vision.

Not in my top 10 favorite artists, but definitely in my top 40. {Smile}

He died just after my 1st birthday. So, that was ‘recent’ — of sorts.

The Sputnik 2 & ‘Laika’ THE DOG!

Wow, I remember it well and can still recall those exciting days. I had just turned 4. It was BIG news in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). We did NOT have TV in the country at that stage, but it was covered, extensively, in the newspapers and radio.

I became a space junkie with the launch of Sputnik — and I guess I still am.

Exciting times. Wow. 60-years ago. But still vivid in my mind.

Eversource, Metrocast & TDS Did ‘Good’ After The Storm — Do NOT Ask For Reimbursement.

by Anura Guruge

This is what they had to contend with.

This is how they fixed it.

Yes, they had crews and trucks from South Carolina!
Check number plates.
They had 12 at that junction alone.

We were without power & internet for 70-hours. Yes, 2-hours short of 3 whole days & nights.

So, we understand. We know. We lived through it.

But, in the overall scheme of things OUR Eversource, Metrocast & TDS folks did good.

This storm has cost them plenty — and yes, they put aside monies for emergencies like this.

But, it would be cheap and churlish to ask for a reimbursement for the service interruption.

Yes, in case you are wondering, they are giving reimbursements, in the $19 range, no questions asked.

But, come on. Play the white man!

In some instances Metrocast & TDS were down because power was down. IF we had power our TDS Internet would have worked.

Usually I am the first to criticize these companies. But, with this storm you have to be reasonable.

SMILE.

Another Dramatic Sri Lankan Elephant Rescue — This Time From An Agricultural Well.

This is the 3rd dramatic elephant rescue
by Sri Lankans in the last 5 months!

Yes, we have a lot of elephants and water ….
But …. Hhhmmm.

At least this time they didn’t use firecrackers to frighten the ‘poor’ pachyderm!

As I have already stated in prior posts, we Sri Lankans have a special relationship with elephants.

So we will go to great lengths to save an elephant, PLUS elephants are valuable and precious commodities whether domesticated or wild.

I am proud. We did good again.

Our Halloween 2017.

Unusual Halloween in that we were into Day 2 without power (or Internet) after Sunday night’s powerful storm. Luckily we had two generators. So Teischan could ready with lights. Had to put the generators away before we went trick-or-treating.

Earlier in the day we weren’t even sure whether they would be having trick-or-treat because of the widespread power failures. Alton town got power back just in time.

Nice weather, probably the best we have had in ages. Not cold — and yes, we have had snow. Lot of people out. I think many just wanted to get out. Also there had not been school that day or the day before, i.e., Monday. That is unusual for what was a rainstorm — with no snow at all.

A good Halloween. Teischan made out like a bandit. We visited two neighbors — both without power (same as us). We were the only ‘treaters’ that had visited. So, they gave Teischan large quantities of goodies. Well, you can see her haul.
