Some similarities to the 18-year old surviving after being hit by a train in Sri Lanka that I posted a few days ago.

This one is even MORE mystifying. She turns around and heads straight into the tain. Luckily she was NOT run over. And that is what makes all the difference. I guess she was small enough that she was not hurt by the ‘cow catcher’ at the front. After she escaped that it was kind of ‘plain sailing’ though the noise would have been horrendous.

I was in a train in India, in the mid-1960s, that ran over a man! I was like 12 – 13 and terrified. I did NOT go to look. We were ‘there’, i.e., on the train, for hours while they retrieved the body.

Huge 17′ Crocodile Caught (& Conserved) In Sri Lanka.

I know that there are crocodiles in Sri Lanka. I had seen a few during my 14 years of living there. I even once saw a crocodile hunt — a crocodile, on a riverbank, being shot with a rifle.

I had also heard that the recent floods in Sri Lanka had resulted in some crocodiles getting swept over the banks of flooded rivers. Not sure whether this was one of these.

17 feet is big. But 3 feet below record length even for an Asian crocodile.

I had never heard of Thibbotuwawa. Couldn’t really find it. The best I could do was determine that it was in the Matale District. So, I marked that on a map for you (below). NOT where I would have expected to find a huge crocodile. Matale is in the area which we refer to as ‘Up Country‘ in that it is in the hilly, middle of the Island. Maybe some folks in Sri Lanka can help me out on this.

Sony a6500: Updating The Firmware From v1.01 To v.1.02.

by Anura Guruge

Click image to access the Sony firmware update page for the a6500 — with 1.02 to the latest version.

Click to ENLARGE. Successful update of my Sony a6500 to 1.02 from 1.01.

The Sony a6500, though it has only been available as of November 29, 2016, is already at v1.02 of the firmware, 1.02 having been rushed out in early March to fix a rather nasty ‘dead camera’ scenario.

Version 1.01 was released on January 25, 2017 — just 57-days into its product life. Makes you think.

Version 1.02 was released 41 days later.

At this rate 1.03 should be out soon!

To be fair, the updating to 1.02 was easy, painless and quite quick. I didn’t time it, but I think it only took about 6 minutes. I could be wrong since I was not paying attention and was doing other things.

What I wanted to share with you was that updating to 1.02 was NOT an hassle.

Didn’t notice any changes after I did, BUT I have yet to run into any unexpected snags with this camera.
