Friday, April 14, 2017.

Sinhala New Year (Avurudu) & Good Friday.

Happened last in 2006.

And before that in 1995, 1933, 1922, 1911 …

Sinhala New Year, more or less always straddles April 14 — though it can sometimes start on April 13 depending on auspicious times.

Good Friday only falls on April 14 IF Easter Sunday falls on April 16 — as it does this year.

About 8% of us Sinhalese are Christians.

The New Year is a secular, cultural holiday independent of religion.

So the Sinhalese Christians will celebrate it alongside their Buddhist brethren.

Since 1777 this has happened 11 times NOT counting 2017.

Next time this will happen will be 11-years from now.

Happy Sinhala New Year 2017.

The 3rd New Year of the Year for I.
But you can never have too many.

Enjoy. Rejoice.
