Sir Winston Churchill Became A U.S. Citizen This Day, April 9, 54-Years Ago!

by Anura Guruge

I kid YOU NOT!

Yes, Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill KG OM CH TD PC DL FRS RA,
(30 November 1874 – 24 January 1965)
2-Term Prime Minister of Great Britain.

Yes, an Executive Order by JFK. No courts blocked that. {SMILE} Click to ENLARGE and admire. You can find it on the Web.

His mother was American and Winston was always rather proud of that.

I am not 100% sure BUT I think it was ‘honorary’ so that he would not have to pay any taxes in the U.S.! By 1963 he was quite wealthy and his royalties from his many splendid works would have been substantial. I am sure Winston would not have wanted to file a U.S. IRS 1040 each year.

I wonder if Donald Trump knows the significance of THIS day — bust or no bust.

Could Symbolism In Nikki Haley’s “Meet The Press” Necklace Be Wrongly Interpreted Abroad?

by Anura Guruge

IF you watched today’s “Meet The Press“, were observant and have good eyes you would have noticed the pendent on Nikki Haley’s necklace — Nikki (of Indian-origin) being Donald’s Trump’s ‘far from subservient’ Ambassador to the U.N.

If you missed it, here is a picture and you can catch the interview at NBC by clicking on this link.

Yes, that happens to be a symbol of South Carolina — she having been the Governor of South Carolina. That is sweet of her to wear that.

But, that necklace would have had a LOT of FOLKS overseas scratching their heads and WONDERING whether she was trying to send some kind of coded message.

WHY?

It contains a Crescent Moon!

The Crescent Moon has very major symbology particularly when it comes to the Middle East.

I doubt whether many outside of the U.S. — actually outside of S.C. — appreciate that that is a S.C. symbol.

Yikes.

Didn’t she realize?

Didn’t somebody tell her?

I didn’t watch the whole interview, BUT did Chuck make a comment to explain to his audience that she was not trying to be cute.

I Had No Idea That They Delivered Large Refrigerator/Freezers Using Just Shoulder Harnesses.

This was the Samsung, from Best Buy, we had delivered — to replace a 13 month old GE. Click to ENLARGE. 289 pounds.

I can’t honestly remember the last time I saw a refrigerator being delivered. Can’t even remember the last time I bought one or have one that needed replacing. All the many houses I have bought over the years came with appliances.

Ditto for this current house which we bought 10 years and 1 month ago.

Yes, 10 years and 1 month ago — and last week the GE Fridge/Freezer decided that it was time for its planned obsolescence. I have since discovered that the lifespan of a ‘modern’ fridge is 8 – 10 years, whereas older ones would last 30 years or more. That would explain why I can’t remember ever buying a new fridge.

I wondered how they were going to take out the old GE (for a $15 fee) and bring in the new 289 pound Samsung.

I had visions of dollies and ramps such that those used by movers.

When I didn’t see a dolly I actually JOKED without ever realizing how close I would be by saying: “what are you going to do, throw it on your back and carry it in?” He replied: “yep, pretty much”.

And he wasn’t joking.

Never seen anything like this. Damn impressive.

But I am NOT sure whether it is safe, wise or advisable.

We also learned that they get no special training as such about avoiding back injury and other damage.

I also learned that they might do 6 such deliveries a day.

Wow.

Yes, definitely quicker and easier than using a dolly, BUT I can see the potential for disaster.

I am surprised that this is permitted. They are taking quite the risk.

Greenleaf Beacon Hill Dollhouse Is Painfully Slowly Being Assembled.

This is what Teischan, after much deliberation and consideration, wanted as the main present for her 11th birthday on March 22nd.

We kind of knew what we were getting into BUT this is something else.

She can’t do it by herself so I have to work with her — all the time.

I have over the years, with Teischan being #4, built hundreds of Lego, AirFix and similar models — with some of these being v. ambitious, big and complex. BUT nothing compares to this.

Plus the thin plywood is brutal in terms of splinters.

It is hard work.

The pictures shows what the FINISHED house should look like!
