The Sublime ‘Raphael’, One Of THE Greatest, Died This Day BUT Might Have Also Been BORN This Day, April 6!

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and read here. Wikipedia entry: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raphael

We are NOT sure whether he was born April 6 or March 28.

But we do know that he DIED on April 6, 1520 — way, way too early. April 6 that year was Good Friday. It is said that he died, prematurely, from having had too much sex! What a way to go — though I kind of doubt whether that was what really killed him.

One of my TOP 5 favorite artists and how could be NOT be.

I am very partial to the ‘School of Athens’ and it might even feature on the cover of a future book.

But, let’s take few minutes off today to just savor the work, life and spirit of Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino.

What a MAN. What a talent.

“The School of Athens” at the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican. The person on the steps, leaning on a block of marble is his fellow artist (and competitor) Michelangelo Buonarroti.

‘The Parnassus’ — another painting at the Apostolic Palace, Vatican.

SOME of his work that has struck a chord with I.

Sony’s Rebates On The Popular Alpha Mirrorless Cameras Continue Past April 1, 2017.

by Anura Guruge

The rebates, which were in the $200 — $300 range, were supposed to expire this last weekend — and that was NO April Fool’s prank.

But that has no happened as yet. If anything the likes of B&H are discounting even deeper.

There is a BIG Sony announcement scheduled for April 23, 2017 and my druthers is that Sony will keep the rebates going till past that. Depending on what is announced we could maybe even see further discounts on selected models, e.g. Sony a7 II.

So, as ever, a timely heads up.

PBS Masterpiece “Home Fires” Is BACK, With Season 2, After 17-Month Gap!

by Anura Guruge

Click image to access PBS’ homepage for this excellent show.

Season 2 Episode 1 is AVAILABLE, FREE, Online.
At the PBS homepage.

What Season 1 looked like.

We got thoroughly hooked “Home Fires” Season 1 in the Fall of 2015. Preferred it to “Indian Summers” which also premiered at the same time.

Of course my cup of tea, but what was neat is that Teischan (then 9) loved it.

Had kind of forgotten about it since it has been so long. Then happened to see that Season 2 was starting this past weekend. DVRed it, of course. Watched it Wednesday, April 5, evening.

It was good. Nice, Downton Abbey-like, storylines. Very warm and cozy.

If you are an Anglophile this will be magical. Can’t wait for Episode 2. So many familiar faces.

I recommend it with gusto. Plus, it appears to be available online. So, go for it. You will thank me.
