Out Running In Central New Hampshire In 11°F (-12°C) Weather, December 19, 2016.

I knew that today, Monday, December 19, 2016, was going to be ‘cold’ — BUT not cold enough to preclude my near daily ~2.5 mile run with the two dogs.

My self-imposed personal cut-off for running is 5°F (-15°C).

If it is warmer than that and there is no precipitation (read snow or sleet) or a howling gale wind I will venture out.

This morning at 9:30am it was 11°F and there was no wind — beautiful blue skies with a few wispy white clouds. I had no excuse. I had to go running.

Nothing special in terms of my winter wear. Just my normal 3-layers on top, T-shirt, sweatshirt and ski jacket. 15-year old waterproof sweatpants held up around my waist with a piece of string! Oh, and a protector to keep ‘them’ tucked close into my body to prevent possible frostbite!

Off we went. I worry about the dogs because they can’t turn around and tell me that it is too cold for them and that unlike I they have no clothes. But, they show no signs of distress. I watch the tails. I know their tails. As long as the tails are upright and erect I know that they are ‘OK’. Doesn’t seem to bother them. This is not new to them either. If I run, they run. So they have run in the cold before. It is Braxton, the Harrier, who has no coat of any sort, that amazes me. Yes, he, at 3 years, is young. The cold does not faze him. I checked his body when we got home. He was HOT.

Anywho … It was not bad. Actually quite nice. Didn’t feel cold! I was sweating when I got back. Just for good measure I then did 10-minutes of shoveling — not that there was any need because our driveway, thanks to all our administrations over the weekend was 100% clear and DRY.

So that was my run.
