It is the adjacency to Christmas that makes this rather important —
Hanukkah not falling on Christmas day that often.
You would think that there would be NO discrepancy.
But, there is. As you will see.
And yes, I understand that Jewish holidays start at sundown where a ‘day’, per the ‘European’ calendar/convention, starts at midnight. And with Hanukkah there is the ‘first day’ — though that is when the first candle is lit. So, it would not, and should not, be taken as the next day.
And we do have a definitive answer
(as of Friday, November 25, 2016) thanks to
Chani Benjaminson of Chabad.org (referenced below).
“The Jewish day begins the night before, so while the first day of Chanukkah 2016 will be on the 25th, the first night is the 24th and that’s when the first Menorah candle will be lit. See this handy calendar for more details:
“Time and Date” an accepted source for such information says
December 25, 2016.
chabad.org, that appears quite Jewish, says December 24!
Then there is this — “The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism“.
They sound like an outfit that would know this stuff. They claim December 25!
So, I am confused. I just wanted to research when it falls on Christmas. Thanks.

Easy question. But, have you ever thought about it. I think I run up a mountain, but is it really a hill? I didn’t know. I did remember the movie (⇒). So I knew there was a height criteria. So what is that height?
Think first, then research, then THINK again. Think for the pleasure of thinking.
Yesterday’s ‘Think’: “When we figured out that the Milky Way was a galaxy” — The official answer is 1920! So that is still less than 100 years ago. We, as humans, have known for ever that there was a ‘Milky Way’ up there, in the heavens. But, until 1920 we didn’t really know that there were other galaxies, that we could see, up there. It was discovering these other galaxies, c. 1920, that enabled us to figure out that the Milky Way was also a galaxy — one of many. This article will help.
Though I have been doing it, assiduously, for 50-years, shaving is something I really, really, really detest.
Believe it or not, despite all that shaving, I still have very sensitive skin on my face. I get razor burn and my skin itches like crazy after each shave — though I use aftershave, talc and liberal amounts of vigorous face slapping (to stimulate the circulation).
Over the 50-year period I have tried anything and everything that I can lay my hands on to help me minimize the torture of shaving. Nothing has really worked.
Then a few months ago, I saw this little bottle, with the words “Shave Secret” on it, in Walmart in the razor section. It wasn’t expensive. Under $5. I bought it. What did I have to lose?
I tried it. Wow. Sure made a difference. Was noticeable. My skin was much less irritated. The itching much less.
I have now been using it for a about 2.5 months. It is the only shaving aid I use. The Nivea shaving foam containers have gone unused.
Last week I ordered two bottles from Amazon.
I now use slightly more than what they recommend, i.e., 6 – 7 drops as opposed to 5. I also massage some drops into the skin after I finish.
Not sure what is in it. Suspect that there is some Vitamin E in there.
Whatever it is … IT WORKS.
It is impressive. I think ladies will find this of interest on multiple fronts.
Not expensive either. A bottle will easily last you 6 weeks.
So give it a try. I recommend it, highly — with no reservations.
