Think – Today: How Many Buddhas Have There Been?

by Anura Guruge

Not a trick question by any means. Did YOU really think that there has only been ONE Buddha? The last one? Gautama Buddha. Oh, dear! So, I ask again, how many Buddhas have there been?

Think first, then research, then THINK again. Think for the pleasure of thinking.

Yesterday’s ‘Think’: “Electoral College” — the U.S. ‘Founding Fathers’, after much deliberation and soul-searching, put it into ‘the system’ to serve as a ‘circuit breaker’ if things went awry during the election. Two hundred and fifty years ago the U.S. electorate was very different to now. There was NO Twitter, FaceBook, Fox News or CNN. A lot of the population lived in isolated, rural areas. They did not have access to up to-date or reliable news about politics. As such the Founding Fathers were worried that the rural populace might, inadvertently, elect a drunkard or criminal as President. (Sex molester were more rare in those days.) The Electoral College was there to override the popular vote IF they, an august body, believed that the people got it wrong. Akin to why the Democratic Party uses ‘Super Delegates‘. The Electoral College still has the power to overturn the vote — though they have never done so.

Devanee (16) is on the “Prospect Mountain” “Bob (319)” team. She is in charge of media relations and was walking around all day with her Canon T3i around her neck. But, she wanted ME to take some pictures — especially of the pigs (one of my specialties). So, I did. It was fun. I had never been to one of these. So I wasn’t sure what to expect. The Nikon, at ISO 6400, is a bit noisy. But, I know what to plan for if I go to another event.

Mark Twain is erroneously credited as having once written: “Sorry this letter is so long. If I had more time I would have made it shorter”.

Well that was the sentiment behind this book. As I was finishing my first “Brain Meditation” book, in September 2016, I KNEW that I had made it too long and too detailed. I knew I had to do a “Quick Guide”.

So I did. Took me 2-weeks longer than I expected. But, now it is done. It was published yesterday, as an eBook (that can be read ANYWHERE), on Amazon. Now I have to work on the paperback.

Goal was to keep it pithy — as much as I could.

So I used lots of ‘bullet points’ and short paragraphs.

Amazon offers a FREE ‘Look Inside’. Take a look.

This was my 26th published book.

Getting A Sony a6500 Will Be Like Entering An Arranged Marriage — YIKES.

by Anura Guruge

In my early 20s (and once more in my early 30s) I railed so much against arranged marriages. My adoptive mother was so, so anxious to get me to marry a ‘tea estate‘ or a rich cousin! I wasn’t going to have any of that. She even once floored me by saying that she will arrange and finance me to have a white mistress on the side — as long as I married, someone she chose, from Ceylon! That did really flabbergast me. My very moral, ultra-religious mother telling me that she will pay for me to keep a white mistress on the side. Wow.

And now I am going to get a Sony a6500.

I am in shock. Albeit not too severe.

It does seem crazy doesn’t it. Getting a camera that you don’t like! But I don’t have a choice. I have gone for 15 months WAITING to buy my ‘serious’ big camera. I can’t wait forever. I waited for nearly 9 months for the Fuji X-T2. Then I realized that its autofocus would not meet my expectations.

My extensive research and plain logic tells me that the Sony a6500, in terms of specs., is the camera for me. I just don’t like how it looks, how small it is and user-interface. Plus I have had bad luck with two Sonys, an a77 Mk II and a RX100 Mk II.

This is what DPReviews has to say about the Sony a6300 in its latest
Interchangeable Lens Cameras ($900-1200)” Roundup.

The a6500 is essentially the same beast with a TOUCHSCREEN and some better electronics inside.

You can see my dilemma and bind.

The a6500 sucks in terms of looks/handling but is exceptional in terms of what I really want — amazing autofocus and great image quality.

Hence the compromise.

Head over heart.

Cold logic over passion.

What is the worst that can happen? That I return it. {SMILE}

Now that would be different.
