Nikon Results For Financial Year Ending March 2016 Looks Bad, Especially Downward Trend In Cameras.
From Nikon’s Website.
Just looking at the camera sales — in the 2nd chart — is sobering. They sold 570,000 LESS DSLR type cameras from the previous year. That is 1/2 million+.
Even worse when it came to compact (i.e., Coolpix type) cameras — 1,460,000 less. Close to a drop of 1.5 million units. If you add the two together you are looking at a drop of 2 million units.
Yes, we all know one major reason, particularly so come the compacts. SMART phones, in particular expensive ones such as iPhones and Samsungs. They have pretty fancy camera capabilities. So why buy a compact when you can put that money towards buying a better camera?
This is not good news for Nikon or to us customers. If this trend continues Nikon will have to reign in product development and introduction. Might explain, already, why the exciting new 1″ DL cameras are very late.
