TDS 1 Gig Internet (TDS TV) Will Not Be Available In SW Alton Till December 2016 (If That).

by Anura Guruge

tdsaltondec2016

Knowing TDS as well as I do (having been a loyal customer for 9 years), I reckon that ‘estimated December 2016‘ will really translate to early 2017.

No big deal. I am not banking on TDS.

My Metrocast 110 Mbps service is fine. I am not even sure I will upgrade! By January 2017, Metrocast, as they did in 2016, will probably give us another speed boost.

So this is just a heads up.

Don McLean’s famous, evocative appearance was in 2014.

Though there were ‘rumors’ that he would appear in 2015 that was not to be the case. The guest star was Suzanne Nance — and due to bad weather they had to push back the ‘Spectacular’ to July 5th.

Appears that this year it is just the highly rated and very accomplished “Portland Symphony Orchestra“.

Man Showing Flashing British Passport, Post-Brexit, To Avoid ‘Hate Crimes’ Is A Sri Lankan.

I don’t know him personally but I do know the name. “Dissanayake” is a quintessential Sri Lankan, Sinhalese name and I even have a “Dissanayake” as a relative. “Nalin” is also a Sri Lankan name, though not a common one. There is also a Sri Lankan cricketer of that name.

That he felt compelled to do this — i.e., go around flashing his British passport — is SCARY. I guess he is worried that he would be mistaken for a Middle Eastern immigrant. This is sad. Not sure I would have to flash my British passport IF I were in Britain today, post-Brexit. I guess, for a start, I don’t dress like an immigrant.

C’est la vie. This is very sad and bad.

Just thought I would share with you that he is originally from Sri Lanka — same as I.

‘Finding Dory’ (3D) — Splendid, Touching Kid’s Movie.

Disney • PIXAR know the formula and were unlikely to get it wrong. A splendid kid’s animation. Just as it is meant to be. Well crafted story with neat twists and turns and a lovable cast of characters, especially ‘Hank‘ the octopus (or septapus, given he lost a tentacle). Cute, touching and heartwarming. Just when you think you have the ending worked out they throw in a neat, ingenious twist. Slightly educational too — kids are unlikely to forget that octopi have 3 hearts. Lots of positive messaging for kids about aspirations, goals, coping with limitations etc.

The 3D was muted. Nothing dramatic for the sake of showcasing the 3D. But the 3D adds to the presence and texture of the characters. The bulging of Dory’s eyes would not be the same outside of 3D.

Not sure whether it was as good as “Finding Nemo” — but “Nemo”, 13 year ago, was groundbreaking on so many fronts. In the intervening years we have become attuned to the technological and storytelling magic. That it is essentially a sequel to “Nemo” is neat.

Piper” the de rigueur 6 minute PIXAR ‘technology preview’ short that accompanies “Dory” is also incredibly cute. As always stunningly showcases PIXAR’s technological mastery.

Full Disclosure: I am a Disney shareholder and owned PIXAR for a very long time before it was acquired by Disney.

P.S., We saw it at the Concord, N.H. “Regal Cinema“, 7:10pm show. Other than us there were just 5 others in the theatre.
