Sunrise At Stonehenge On 2016 Summer Solstice — This Is Magical For Us Pagans.
I was lucky in that I started visiting Stonehenge, regularly, starting in 1973 — BEFORE they put the fences up and stopped you from actually communing with the Stones. The first time I visited was when I had my first car — a Triumph 1250. It was also when I had my first dog, ‘Rosseau’, a border collie. He was a puppy. He loved Stonehenge. He lifted his leg up against each and EVERY stone. I remember that so vividly. This little black/white puppy, so small standing up and peeing against each HUGE stone. Those were the days.
Then during 1975 – 1976, living in Hampshire, and working for IBM, ‘we’ got into this habit of visiting Stonehenge on the night of Fullmoon. It was about 2 hours away. We would leave home, after dinner, and get their for midnight. Again we could walk up to the Stones. Suffice to say we were never alone. It was cool.
I HATE the ‘new’, since the 1990s, FENCED in arrangement. A shame. Love it when they let folks interact with the Stones. That is magical.
Rejoice. Today is the SOLSTICE — my least favorite day of the year.
