andygrove

Only knew him by reputation though I am sure he and I must have been at the same ‘Computer Shows’ (e.g., InterOp) at the same time.

Always admired him for his vision. Shame to see him go. But I am getting to THAT AGE. Lot of people I knew are now old (as am I). So Gene Amdahl (who I had met) and now Andy Grove. So two giants from the 1970s/1980s computer age.

I Am In Love With Citi Credit Card “Price Rewind”.

by Anura Guruge

citipricerewind

Click to check out this LOVELY feature at Citi.

To be fair I have YET to receive a cent back from Citi ‘Price Refund’ BUT they tell me that I might be in line for a $70 refund! Wow. I am in love. Not going to tell you what I am due that refund for … but IF you are a regular reader of this blog you know what I spend the money that I do not have on. No, it is (no longer) on women and booze.

Not putting ANY big purchases on my Amazon card ever AGAIN! Not good news for Amazon and actually also for I since I own a fair number of Amazon shares!

When I was shopping around for Credit Cards in January, when I decided that I had had it with ‘Bank of America‘ and the 3 cards I had from them (one going back (via MBNA) to 1986), I saw the ‘Price Rewind’ on Citi. That was a consideration. Deanna and I had both had Citi Credit Cards before and I was getting (at least) 3 invitations a week to get a card. In the end I ended up getting TWO Citi cards — a SIMPLICITY and an AAdavantage.

That they do not give you REWARDS in cash is a slight frustration BUT I have a Fidelity card that does.

But I love this “Price Rewind”. Can’t stop smiling. SMILE.

Claim That Smart People Tend To Be Loners Made Me Smile. SMILE.

When I saw the headline this morning it made me SMILE.

Well I can’t relate since I am not smart. Plus I am supposed to be an off-the-scale extrovert though extroverts can be loners.

During the short time I worked at ‘Data General‘ (DG), another now defunct minicomputer legend of the 1980s, there should to be a V.P. who per what he must have learned at some seminar he attended would always challenge folks (I among them): “IF you are so smart, why aren’t you richer?” Damn good question and I do, to an extent, agree. While drug dealers and pimps can be rich most of the rich people I know are, of course, smarter than I. This “IF you are so smart, why aren’t you richer?” has been a consolation to I. I can better reconcile why I am so poor. Not smart enough. Q.E.D. Smile.

Some Very Arresting Olympus Discounts On The Fairly New OM-D E-M5 Mk. II.

by Anura Guruge

I subscribe to e-mails from Olympus and on Monday got two touting the quite compelling Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II at $899. See below. That looked like a decent price.

Then, as is my wont, I happened to check on Amazon.

Ritz Camera is offering a M5 Mk. II with a 40-150mm lens for $999!
That is insane.

I, of course, know of Ritz Camera BUT have never dealt with them,

Wonder IF there is a catch?

With my Panasonic Lumix FZ1000.

Refer to this post for image resolution details.
NO post-processing whatsoever.
Straight JPEGs from the camera.

Another take of my 3 large Sri Lankan (Ceylonese) Devil Masks.
I featured them in December too,
in a different setting.
They are used to scare away evil demons.
I have had these 3 for over 30 years!

The Titanic image is a cross-stitch done for
my son Matthew nearly 18 years ago.
