Sri Lanka Umpire Kumar Dharmasena’s LBW Of New Zealand Guptill vs. India In ICCWT20 SHOCKING!

by Anura Guruge

kumarshocking2nd ball. It was high and missing leg. What was Kumar Dharmasena or more to the point not thinking?

Diabolical. Shocking.

Was HE cheating? Is he on the make? How much was the LBW worth … $100,000?

That was bad. I like New Zealand BUT I wouldn’t class myself a mega NZ fan, but this annoyed me, no end.

Kumar, of late, is coming across as a poser. Very concerned about looking cool. Well this wasn’t cool.

Yes, we all make mistakes BUT in umpiring we are also all told about caution, doubt, benefit of the doubt.

They should think very carefully about letting him stand again in this important Championship.

I am sure New Zealand will lodge a complaint.

In the meantime I will hang my head in shame.

Talking of New Zealand I had NO IDEA that Martin Crowe had died. WOW. I liked him. Great cricketer. 10 years younger than I. Wow. Doesn’t seem right. I will miss him.

Fuji X-Pro2 Update: No Firmware Update As Yet, 150 Shot Battery Life Claim & 83% Rating By DPReview.

by Anura Guruge

DPReview 83% rating. Click to ENLARGE and goggle here. You can find the original review (thorough as ever) at: dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilm-x-pro2/10

As I have already made clear the Fujifilm X-Pro2 leaves me cold. The only reason that I appear to obsessively follow it is because it is, by any measure, the precursor to my much anticipated dream camera — the yet to be announced Fuji X-T2. So that is the deal.

The X-Pro2, per Amazon & B&H, doesn’t start shipping till next week, March 20, 2016. Yes, I know that there were ‘pre-production’ models. That said I am slightly leery of the reviews that I see at B&H. Yes, of course they may have got the cameras by some means. But last September I saw many ‘bogus’ reviews getting posted on Amazon for the Sony RX10 II BEFORE the camera was shipping. That might not be the case on B&H but I am, as ever, cautious.

There are two reviews of the X-Pro2, at B&H, that are of concern. One is that posted above talking about a 150 shot battery life in ‘high performance’ and the throwaway comment, right at the end, that the “camera speed throughout is noticeably slower”. Aahh? The third review, a 3-star one (by a supposed Pro photographer with an impressive stable of Fuji cameras) is frightening. He confirms the ‘custom menu reset’ problem we have already heard about BUT claims it happens when you swap batteries. Yikes! That is why I was checking to see if Fuji has done a Firmware update as yet. They haven’t.

The DPReview 83% is, from what I know, above average. From what I have seen most ‘good’ cameras get 82%. So this is a tad higher. BUT JPEG image quality and ‘metering focus’ do not get outstanding ratings. That is scary.

Anywho. Hope all of this in one place, with the necessary links, helps.

“Great British Bake Off” (GBBO) Season 6, i.e., 2015 — Last Few Episodes No Longer On YouTube.

by Anura Guruge

gbbo676766

Click to access Season 6 Episode 1 on YouTube.

All of the Season 6 (2015) episodes, including the Final, i.e., Episode 11, were available on YouTube in October/November last year. We know because we watched them all on YouTube — typically 36 hours after they aired in the U.K. We got it down to a fine art towards the end. We knew who posted decent clips and who were just pretending to post.

A few days ago I got a message from somebody I did not know on Facebook asking if I knew how to find the Season 6 Final on YouTube. I thought it would be trivial. It wasn’t. A lot of Season 6 videos have been deleted. It is possible that the BBC or PBS is doing this. I sought help from the kids. We found a YouTube ‘library’ with 14 supposedly Season 6 videos. So we assumed that Episode 11 was in there. Wrong. Appears that Season 6 episodes beyond episode 6 are not on YouTube.

If you know better PLEASE help. I am going to look around on the PBS channel on Roku etc.

So take this as a Heads Up.

“Great British Bake Off” (GBBO) Season 7, i.e., 2016, Could Be The Last On BBC.

As far as I can see they haven’t started taping the 2016 edition, i.e., Season 7, as yet. Given the tent and the verdancy that surrounds it the tapings are most likely done in June or July. So still a few months left. Season 6 (2015) started airing in mid-August. So that is probably when we can start expecting season 7 this year — on YouTube. i.e., around August 2016. I will, of course, keep you posted.
